I was sent the Mama Bird Necklace to review with 2 pearls which signify my first daughter and my upcoming second. I’m not a huge jewelry wearer. My mother-in-law refers to me as “granola” because in general, I’m rather low maintenance. But, when my love Locket arrived from Julian & Co, I wore it daily. On a recent girls’ trip with my mom and sis to L.A., we spent a day enjoying the sights of Catalina Island. While there we browsed the artisans at the local craft fair, and that’s when I discovered Island Cowgirl jewelry. I don’t know what it was about this collection of rustic silver and gold jewelry—perhaps it was the handcrafted look and feel, or could have just as easily been the unique designs. Whatever it was, I was in love! Oh, and I still am. Deeply.

Heather Kraty, the true Island Cowgirl, was born in upstate New York. After graduating from NYC’s Fashion Institute of Technology, made her way to St. Martin where she “lived on a catamaran, dove for buried treasure and sold her jewelry on the beach.” The rest of her story is totally amazing…but you’ll have to read it for yourself. Heather sent me the At First Glance necklace to review for our readers. (I have a very demanding job.) The outer circle is engraved with “At first glance, I loved you with a thousand hearts.” And at first glance I loved this necklace. In fact, I immediately took it out of the package—well, after snapping a few photos—and put it on. True love.

Yes, I’m wearing a hoodie and t-shirt, but I have a feeling Island Cowgirl jewelry would look perfect no matter the outfit. It has quickly become one of my favorite pieces. Must be that handcrafted, rustic feel. Kind of speaks to the soul.

The only thing not so perfect about the Island Cowgirl collection is the price tag. Though the earrings I’m good with, I do have a bit harder time with the bracelets and necklaces, but then again, I don’t often invest in jewelry. Maybe it’s about time I did.—Emily

There’s nothing like a new handbag, whether it be a fancy clutch for a holiday party or a hobo bag for a casual girls’ day out. Of course buying a new handbag every time you feel so inclined (or every time you fall in love with the latest fad) could really put a damper on your budget. Within days of seeing the hottest new trend in Hollywood, you’ll see that same trend on Shop Suey Boutique. The site also features some of the highest quality faux leather available—it looks and feels like real leather. You won’t find anything that looks super cheap or plastic in this boutique!

But enough background; let’s get into the handbags! Shop Suey Boutique sent me the Maureen satchel in gray to review on Boutique Cafe’s Daily Dish. This faux leather handbag features a woven design on the front with chic-yet-sturdy hardware and a detachable shoulder strap.

It also has a good variety of pockets (two small interior storage pockets; cell and sunglasses pockets; outside zipper pocket) and the cutest interior fabric.

Though I thought the bag would be slightly bigger (silly me didn’t check the dimensions), it is the perfect size for everyday use. And I would say its cell phone and sunglasses pockets are the best out of any of my handbags. They are the perfect width and perfect depth so I don’t lose a cell phone when I bend over to pick up yet another piece of Target popcorn Livi has dropped on the ground.

The Maureen satchel’s “leather like” material really is soft and leathery-feeling. Of course it doesn’t have that leather smell, but it also doesn’t have that leather price! The dark gray color goes well with everything and I’ve already had a couple compliments on it.

The Maureen satchel from Shop Suey Boutique is a little subdued for my taste (my fault—I did pick the style and color), so I’m thinking I may need to change it out for the Meryll hobo in purple. I mean, can you blame me? It’s adorable! And for the price, why the heck not? While I’m online I may pick up the Helen bracelet to go with it!—Emily

I love unique jewelry, especially if it has some sort of message whether worked into the design or behind it. Because of my love of the “meaningful unique” (a new phrase I just coined), it’s no surprise Meridane Design’s “What U Love” Symbol caught my eye—and my heart.

First, the story:

Meridane Design … was created when Sally Short serendipitously superimposed each letter of the phrase ‘LOVE IS ALL U NEED’ on top of one another and then added a peace sign to complete the design. The design was sent off to be cast in sterling silver as a ‘Love and Peace’ pendant for Sally to wear.

But something happened when the Short family received it; they saw it sitting sideways and noticed a ‘K’ popping out. ... That motivated the family to look for other letters and they ended up uncovering EVERY LETTER of the ALPHABET and EVERY NUMBER within the symbol!

Right now mine is saying “peace” and “simplify” and “I am so glad my husband is finally home from work.” If you’re one of those who likes to hide things in plain sight, then you are totally loving the What U Love Symbol. What other jewelry lets you wear a secret message that can change at a moment’s notice?

Meridane Design offers the What U Love Symbol in sterling silver pendants, bracelets, earrings and even custom necklaces. My favorites are the pendants with center-set stones.

I was given the What U Love pendant with peridot stone on a beautiful silver box chain necklace to review on the Daily Dish. (My life is tough, I know—it’s SO hard to walk around with a beautiful silver pendant, hidden message and all, around my neck.) Though it looked great with my t-shirt and jeans, it would look awesome dressed up or down for any occasion. (I apologize for not having a closer shot but I could not get that dang camera to focus—too much Diet Coke today?)

My daughter is absolutely in love with this pendant and thinks it’s “super cool.” She might’ve even used the word “awesome” in there as well. I couldn’t agree more! I love the sound of jingling bells because it usually means the holidays are here and Santa’s on his way. It’s a sad, sad day when the bells stop jingling but thanks to Baby Emi jewelry you can hear those tinkling, jingling bells all year long!

I’m not the only one who loves these sweet little jingle bells. You’ll find Baby Emi’s sterling silver jingle bell anklets and bracelets on quite a few celebrity children. That’s probably why I felt super nifty when Baby Emi gave me a sterling silver jingle bell anklet for Livi so she and I could review it on the Daily Dish.

Oh, the sweet tinkling of those tiny, delicate bells! When I pulled it out of the satin gift bag the first thing I did was see if it would fit around my wrist. It honestly looked fabulous, but I sacrificed and let my daughter try it on for size. Unfortunately for this review but fortunately for me (because now I can wear it whenever I want), Miss “I’ll wear what I want to wear and not what you ask/beg/plead with me to wear” refused to keep it on. I bet if I’d had one on her ankle since birth she’d be fine with it. (The same holds true for headbands and oversized floral clips.) I honestly wish she’d wear it so I could tell where she was in the house. Is she in my bathroom trying on lipstick? Is she in the pantry pulling out the Costco-size bag of chips? It would be nice to have a sort of JPS (“jingle positioning system”) on her!

Though Livi won’t wear it, I continue to take it out of the bag, shake it gently and fall prey to the enchanting sound. Apparently these Cambodian jingle bells can stimulate a baby’s development—perhaps that’s why I love it. I could use a little stimulation throughout the day. (Not that kind of stimulation…) Anything to keep me awake from the hours of 3pm to 7pm.

Baby Emi offers anklets and bracelets for infants, toddlers and adults alike along with sweet necklaces and bangles. Though a little pricey at $60 for a baby anklet, they do make a beautiful and meaningful baby gift (or Valentine’s/Mother’s Day/I’d be lost without you gift). Though we should be giving all year long, the holidays seem to be the time of the year for supporting worthy causes. What better way to support a worthy cause then stuff someone’s stocking with it?

I of course claimed my fave colors (black and red) and let the girls decide on the rest. They looked great doubled and tripled up and I found I loved wearing my black one mixed in with some of my favorite silver bracelets. The fit is universal so no worries about wrist size and they are extremely well made so they can hold up to whatever your music lover throws at them. And at about $9 a piece they make a wonderful stocking stuffer or gift for the holidays. I love finding unique gifts and a guitar-string bracelet from Wear Your Music is definitely one of them.
