Get {Styled by Tori Spelling} + Giveaway!

September 3rd, 2012

It’s time to Bring on the Bling! I’m thrilled to present the incredible Boho and Glam lines from {Styled} by Tori Spelling on Boutique Cafe! First of all, I want to mention that I absolutely adore Tori Spelling and greatly admire her passion for her family, love of crafting and zest for being a momprenuer. I also enjoy her incredible sense of style (and the fact that she has a chicken as a family pet). Love her! That being said, I was eager to showcase {Styled} by Tori Spelling for our readers, and of course to try it out myself.

The idea behind {Styled} is that by using “simple steps to style”, anyone can quickly and easily put together gorgeous statement pieces of jewelry in just minutes. {Styled} by Tori Spelling offers 4 collections of components (Boho, Glitz, Noir and Glam) including necklace tops and bottoms, findings, connectors to finish your necklaces, even pendants to refine your look. The beautiful part is that NO TOOLS ARE REQUIRED, absolutely anyone can pull together the elements and create a gorgeous design you’ll be excited to wear and showoff.

I was sent a glorious box filled with components from the Boho and Glitz lines. There’s a certain thrill that comes from knowing you are going to create something new to dress up your style. I started playing around with the pieces and findings and realized how brilliant this system is, it’s so easy to do that you can’t get it wrong. If you’re personal style is simple you might opt for using a basic necklace top, bottom and connectors – if however you want to dress it up and inject your own flair you can literally keep adding to the piece to make it special and standout. There are no rules, you can use components from the {Styled} by Tori Spelling lines and even attach things you already own such as vintage brooches with their nifty connectors.

I loved the ease of crafting my own {Styled} by Tori Spelling jewelry. The Boho collection is very much for the free spirit who loves mixed metals, medallions and fresh colours. The Glam line incorporates beautiful metals in gold and bronze, highlighted by ivory, coral and sparkling rhinestones. Glam is very much about the metals and textures. I loved how both lines could intermingle with each other!

There’s nothing more girly than wanting to dress up your look with the perfect piece of statement jewelry, and there’s nothing more crafty than making it yourself! That’s what {Styled} by Tori Spelling allows you to do, and with countless combinations of components you can wear an original piece each day.

Darling Accessories from the Vintage Pearl Review

January 4th, 2011

logoHappy New Year! Did you get everything you wanted for the holidays? If you didn’t get something from the Vintage Pearl, then you must read on and add your favourite item to your Valentines wish list.

I was sent the Mama Bird Necklace to review with 2 pearls which signify my first daughter and my upcoming second. I chose to not have anything stamped on it as I liked the simplicity of the copper bird. The necklace is really sweet and an excellent and subtle way to celebrate the “Mama” in your life. It’s a great necklace for every day wearing and it even arrived with it’s very own polish cloth, which conveniently helps me to keep it in tip-top shape.

mamabirdThe Vintage Pearl was begun by a stay-at-home Mom, Erin, looking for a creative outlet. And it grew into a popular business. The Vintage Pearl even has a storefront with a studio in Tulsa, OK! Exciting, right? You can check out Erin’s blog here.

Many other items can be found from the Vintage Pearl, and since each item is hand stamped, you can guarantee that your’s will be unique and made especially for you. Some of my other favourite items are the initial on a chain necklace and the silver cuff bracelet. I would love a little baby spoon as a keepsake for my second daughter. The spoons come hand stamped with your choice of words. Darling! -Katie

Loving my love Locket from Julian&Co + {Giveaway}!

December 6th, 2010

Julian&CoI’m not a huge jewelry wearer. My mother-in-law refers to me as “granola” because in general, I’m rather low maintenance. But, when my love Locket arrived from Julian & Co, I wore it daily. It’s just right for any occasion from cleaning bathrooms to a Christmas Party. It’s modern, yet sweet. I found the locket to be just the right size and the chain to be the perfect length. My love Locket has become my favourite necklace, second only to the pearl necklace my husband gave me on our wedding day.

Do you know how Julian & Co was started? It all began with a family and a mother who wanted something just right for her son. Tania, the founder, quickly became and expert of precious metals and fashioned the perfect piece for her son, Julian. Soon orders began pouring in and so began Julian & Co. You can read the full story here.

loveJulian & Co creates so many beautiful pieces, all heirloom quality. Stumped on what to give your Mom for Christmas? Julian & Co has the perfect gift for her! Feeling like your wish list is a little short? Add this initial wax seal fob pendant to it! Make sure you leave this review open for your husband to see, especially since Valentines Day comes so quickly after the holidays! – Katie

***Giveaway! Julian & Co is giving away a love Locket to one lucky reader***

To enter, leave a comment telling me what Julian & Co piece (besides the love Locket) you’d like to give to someone you know. I’ll draw a winner from the comments and contact her via email. The winner will then have 24 hours to respond or a new winner will be chosen. Giveaway closes on December 14th, 2010 (midnight).

Time to channel your Island Cowgirl

December 3rd, 2010

On a recent girls’ trip with my mom and sis to L.A., we spent a day enjoying the sights of Catalina Island. While there we browsed the artisans at the local craft fair, and that’s when I discovered Island Cowgirl jewelry. I don’t know what it was about this collection of rustic silver and gold jewelry—perhaps it was the handcrafted look and feel, or could have just as easily been the unique designs. Whatever it was, I was in love! Oh, and I still am. Deeply.

Heather Kraty, the true Island Cowgirl, was born in upstate New York. After graduating from NYC’s Fashion Institute of Technology, made her way to St. Martin where she “lived on a catamaran, dove for buried treasure and sold her jewelry on the beach.” The rest of her story is totally amazing…but you’ll have to read it for yourself. (Note: It just might include a business partnership with Sean Penn.) I love Heather’s sources of inspiration:

I find beauty in things that I loved as a child…, the sun on my back, the sand in my toes, trees and the stars, the flowers along the garden path, puppy dogs and hearts…

And you get a wonderful sense of her inspiration through her jewelry. Check out some my favorite pieces from her collection (and trust me, it was hard to narrow it down):

Island Cowgirl...Island Cowgirl

Island Cowgirl...Island Cowgirl

Heather sent me the At First Glance necklace to review for our readers. (I have a very demanding job.) The outer circle is engraved with “At first glance, I loved you with a thousand hearts.” And at first glance I loved this necklace. In fact, I immediately took it out of the package—well, after snapping a few photos—and put it on. True love.

Island Cowgirl

Island Cowgirl

Yes, I’m wearing a hoodie and t-shirt, but I have a feeling Island Cowgirl jewelry would look perfect no matter the outfit. It has quickly become one of my favorite pieces. Must be that handcrafted, rustic feel. Kind of speaks to the soul.

The only thing not so perfect about the Island Cowgirl collection is the price tag. Though the earrings I’m good with, I do have a bit harder time with the bracelets and necklaces, but then again, I don’t often invest in jewelry. Maybe it’s about time I did.—Emily

Find the perfect handbag at Shop Suey Boutique

November 12th, 2010

There’s nothing like a new handbag, whether it be a fancy clutch for a holiday party or a hobo bag for a casual girls’ day out. Of course buying a new handbag every time you feel so inclined (or every time you fall in love with the latest fad) could really put a damper on your budget. Then again, if you found a tote you liked on Shop Suey Boutique (definitely not hard to do), you could totally afford to buy it . . . and a fancy clutch too!

Shop Suey Boutique

Shop Suey BoutiqueStarted by Heather Gray, a self-proclaimed shopaholic (my kind of girl!) and mother of two, Shop Suey Boutique has quickly become a go-to site for your fave celebrity-inspired fashion and “looks for less” styles you see featured in so many celeb magazines. Within days of seeing the hottest new trend in Hollywood, you’ll see that same trend on Shop Suey Boutique. The site also features some of the highest quality faux leather available—it looks and feels like real leather. You won’t find anything that looks super cheap or plastic in this boutique!

But enough background; let’s get into the handbags! Shop Suey Boutique sent me the Maureen satchel in gray to review on Boutique Cafe’s Daily Dish. This faux leather handbag features a woven design on the front with chic-yet-sturdy hardware and a detachable shoulder strap.

Shop Suey Boutique

It also has a good variety of pockets (two small interior storage pockets; cell and sunglasses pockets; outside zipper pocket) and the cutest interior fabric.

Shop Suey Boutique

Though I thought the bag would be slightly bigger (silly me didn’t check the dimensions), it is the perfect size for everyday use. And I would say its cell phone and sunglasses pockets are the best out of any of my handbags. They are the perfect width and perfect depth so I don’t lose a cell phone when I bend over to pick up yet another piece of Target popcorn Livi has dropped on the ground.

The Maureen satchel’s “leather like” material really is soft and leathery-feeling. Of course it doesn’t have that leather smell, but it also doesn’t have that leather price! The dark gray color goes well with everything and I’ve already had a couple compliments on it.

Shop Suey BoutiqueThe Maureen satchel from Shop Suey Boutique is a little subdued for my taste (my fault—I did pick the style and color), so I’m thinking I may need to change it out for the Meryll hobo in purple. I mean, can you blame me? It’s adorable! And for the price, why the heck not? While I’m online I may pick up the Helen bracelet to go with it!—Emily

* PROMOTION! Shop Suey Boutique is offering Daily Dish readers 20% off their purchase! Simply enter code cafe20 at checkout.

JustGano, the membership club for jewelry lovers {giveaway}

July 29th, 2010

JustGanoYou’ve heard of those “of the month” clubs where you’re shipped a new item every month; of course it’s usually something like steak, fruit or candy. As much as I’d enjoy receiving a new decadent treat every month, the dessert (and the sugar high) wouldn’t last very long. If I’m part of an of-the-month club, that of-the-month item better be worth its weight in gold, or at least worth a bit more than my membership fee.

JustGanoThat’s why I think the concept behind JustGano is so dang cool. It’s a membership site for jewelry lovers. No, it’s not simply a “ring of the month” club. We’re talking necklaces, earrings, bracelets and rings. And the collection is gorgeous! Here’s how it works:

  • Choose your JustGano membership level from The Deb (1 item for $7.95 per month ), The Demi (3 items for $21.95 per month) or The Diva (6 items for $39.95 per month). Did you notice that last plan averages just over $6 per item? Crazy!

  • Create an account and start adding items to your wish list.

  • Every month you’ll be shipped an item (or items) from your wish list free of charge (i.e., free shipping) within 3 to 6 days.

  • No cancellation fee and you can cancel any time.

That’s it! And the process is super easy. JustGano set me up with an account for the purpose of this review. I was able to easily browse their collection of jewelry, which you can do whether or not you have an account, and settled on the Wire-Wrapped Double Gypsy Hoop. The item was shipped quickly and arrived in a beautiful gift box:

JustGano_giftbox

The earrings were just as beautiful in person, if not more so, and I could tell they were well made. I couldn’t wait to wear them and so planned an outfit around my new earrings. Like you haven’t done that before!

Just Gano_Emily

I’ve actually worn them a couple times and each time I do I get compliments. Of course, they look better on JustGano’s model, but they’re still super fabulous!

JustGanoI do seriously love jewelry and am seriously considering a Deb membership. I enjoy sprucing up my jewelry collection but don’t like spending a lot of money on accessories. Of course, being too budget-conscious can backfire when your Forever 21 accessories don’t last more than a few wears. JustGano seems like the perfect option for chic, stylish, budget-friendly jewelry.

Right now I’m eying the Fleur Necklace. It might be making its way into my wish list just in time for my birthday. Happy birthday to me!—Emily

*** Giveaway! JustGano is giving away one jewelry item from their collection, winner’s choice! ***

What I love about the “What U Love” pendant {giveaway}

July 22nd, 2010

meridane_logoI love unique jewelry, especially if it has some sort of message whether worked into the design or behind it. Because of my love of the “meaningful unique” (a new phrase I just coined), it’s no surprise Meridane Design’s “What U Love” Symbol caught my eye—and my heart.

First, the story:

custom1Meridane Design … was created when Sally Short serendipitously superimposed each letter of the phrase ‘LOVE IS ALL U NEED’ on top of one another and then added a peace sign to complete the design. The design was sent off to be cast in sterling silver as a ‘Love and Peace’ pendant for Sally to wear.

But something happened when the Short family received it; they saw it sitting sideways and noticed a ‘K’ popping out. ... That motivated the family to look for other letters and they ended up uncovering EVERY LETTER of the ALPHABET and EVERY NUMBER within the symbol!

How nifty cool is that?! And all those letters superimposed onto each other, cast in sterling silver, makes for a very beautiful, very meaningful pendant. Why so meaningful? Well, other than conveying “love is all u need,” this little jewel conveys whatever message you want.

MetalCuff4Right now mine is saying “peace” and “simplify” and “I am so glad my husband is finally home from work.” If you’re one of those who likes to hide things in plain sight, then you are totally loving the What U Love Symbol. What other jewelry lets you wear a secret message that can change at a moment’s notice?

Meridane Design offers the What U Love Symbol in sterling silver pendants, bracelets, earrings and even custom necklaces. My favorites are the pendants with center-set stones.

WhatULoveSymbolI was given the What U Love pendant with peridot stone on a beautiful silver box chain necklace to review on the Daily Dish. (My life is tough, I know—it’s SO hard to walk around with a beautiful silver pendant, hidden message and all, around my neck.) Though it looked great with my t-shirt and jeans, it would look awesome dressed up or down for any occasion. (I apologize for not having a closer shot but I could not get that dang camera to focus—too much Diet Coke today?)

My daughter is absolutely in love with this pendant and thinks it’s “super cool.” She might’ve even used the word “awesome” in there as well. I couldn’t agree more! Meridane Design’s What U Love pendant is the perfect gift for so many occasions: birthdays, Mother’s Day, showers (both bridal and baby), graduation, back-to-school, Father’s Day (it is unisex after all) or just to say thank you to someone special. The possibilities—and the sayings—are endless!—Emily

P.S. A portion of Meridane Design’s casting is done at Annie’s Orphans in support of their No-Kill Dog Shelter. Super cool.

*** Giveaway! Meridane Design is giving away one (1) small or large sterling silver What U Love pendant with a stainless steel 24” dog tag chain (winner can cut to size)! ***

baby emi jewelry lets you jingle after the holidays {giveaway}

February 4th, 2010

I love the sound of jingling bells because it usually means the holidays are here and Santa’s on his way. It’s a sad, sad day when the bells stop jingling but thanks to Baby Emi jewelry you can hear those tinkling, jingling bells all year long!

baby_emi_jewelry_logo

Baby Emi was founded “to celebrate Debbie’s [the owner’s] Cambodian heritage and the culture’s family-oriented traditions. She was also inspired by her grandparents who made a brave trek to America during a dark time in history wanting to create lives filled with peace, hope and promise.” Cambodian families welcome new babies with jingle bell anklets believing the whimsical sounds keep bad spirits at bay. The inspiration for Baby Emi came when Debbie’s daughter received a set of traditional Cambodian jingle bells as a baby blessing gift in 2002.

BabyEmiJewelryI’m not the only one who loves these sweet little jingle bells. You’ll find Baby Emi’s sterling silver jingle bell anklets and bracelets on quite a few celebrity children. That’s probably why I felt super nifty when Baby Emi gave me a sterling silver jingle bell anklet for Livi so she and I could review it on the Daily Dish.

Oh, the sweet tinkling of those tiny, delicate bells! When I pulled it out of the satin gift bag the first thing I did was see if it would fit around my wrist. It honestly looked fabulous, but I sacrificed and let my daughter try it on for size. Unfortunately for this review but fortunately for me (because now I can wear it whenever I want), Miss “I’ll wear what I want to wear and not what you ask/beg/plead with me to wear” refused to keep it on. I bet if I’d had one on her ankle since birth she’d be fine with it. (The same holds true for headbands and oversized floral clips.) I honestly wish she’d wear it so I could tell where she was in the house. Is she in my bathroom trying on lipstick? Is she in the pantry pulling out the Costco-size bag of chips? It would be nice to have a sort of JPS (“jingle positioning system”) on her!

Though Livi won’t wear it, I continue to take it out of the bag, shake it gently and fall prey to the enchanting sound. Apparently these Cambodian jingle bells can stimulate a baby’s development—perhaps that’s why I love it. I could use a little stimulation throughout the day. (Not that kind of stimulation…) Anything to keep me awake from the hours of 3pm to 7pm.

BabyEmiBangleGoldBaby Emi offers anklets and bracelets for infants, toddlers and adults alike along with sweet necklaces and bangles. Though a little pricey at $60 for a baby anklet, they do make a beautiful and meaningful baby gift (or Valentine’s/Mother’s Day/I’d be lost without you gift). It’s been too long since I last heard the jingling of bells. Better give that anklet a little shake!—Emily

* Promotion! Baby Emi is offering Daily Dish readers 15% off their purchase with code BOUTIQUECAFE15. Now you too can jingle all year long!

Wear it, give it, rock it!

November 24th, 2009

Though we should be giving all year long, the holidays seem to be the time of the year for supporting worthy causes. What better way to support a worthy cause then stuff someone’s stocking with it?

topbanner_02

JohnMayerWear Your Music is line of super cool bracelets made using guitar strings. Wear Your Music actually has two lines of bracelets, the Artist line and the Fashion line. The Artist line features bracelets that are “handcrafted from recycled fine silver and guitar strings” actually used by well-known artists such as Avril Lavigne, Joan Jett and Tim McGraw. These bracelets sell for $100 and up (you can get Robert Trujillo’s from Metallica for $250 or John Mayer’s for $200) and proceeds go towards a charity of the artist’s choosing. The Fashion line is made using guitar strings in a variety of colors. These unisex bracelets are simple yet pretty dang hip and are perfect for music lovers of all ages. A percentage of the profits from the sale of these bracelets are donated to charities that support music.

Wear Your Music sent us a collection from their Fashion line and once they arrived I had to immediately divvy them up so the girls could wear them. I of course claimed my fave colors (black and red) and let the girls decide on the rest. They looked great doubled and tripled up and I found I loved wearing my black one mixed in with some of my favorite silver bracelets. The fit is universal so no worries about wrist size and they are extremely well made so they can hold up to whatever your music lover throws at them. And at about $9 a piece they make a wonderful stocking stuffer or gift for the holidays. I love finding unique gifts and a guitar-string bracelet from Wear Your Music is definitely one of them.

Hands 197 x 178If you have a real guitar lover in the family you might want to consider a bracelet from Wear Your Music’s Artist line. Not only will you be giving a one-of-a-kind gift perfect for your musician but you’ll also be supporting a worthy cause. Now THAT rocks!—Emily

Don’t forget a Things Remembered charm bracelet this Mother’s Day

May 3rd, 2009

What woman doesn’t love jewelry on Mother’s Day? Okay, so maybe I prefer dark chocolate once in a while, but I still can’t resist something silver and shiny, especially if it’s been engraved with something meaningful.

I have enjoyed purchasing gifts from Things Remembered in the past, including a family ornament and necklaces for my daughter and her best friend, so I was excited when I heard about the company’s new line of charms. Charm Story is a new line of 50 exclusive silver-plated engravable charms designed specifically with personalization in mind. They offer “space to engrave a name, date or special message to make each charm a unique reflection of mom.” For example, if your mom is a runner give her a charm symbolizing her first marathon and engrave the name, date and finishing time of the race. If you’d rather tell her how she’s your strength, add a charm representing the Chinese symbol for strength and engrave the date of a moment she most inspired you.

Things Remembered sent me a sample charm bracelet and it is absolutely beautiful! (Yes, it’s even better than dark chocolate.) I chose the Clover Wax Seal charm and had them engrave one of my favorite quotes on the back: “Luck is when preparation meets opportunity.” They also added a few other fun charms, including the Wax Seal Mom charm with “Live, Laugh, Love,” the Purse charm engraved with Boutique Cafe’s tagline (I’m a sucker for a great pair of heels!) and the August Birthstone Heart charm. You can see the photos of this gorgeous bracelet in this review. I’m already wondering which charm I’ll add next—maybe three more birthstone charms for my other three children!

Charm Story offers assorted mom and grandma charms, photo charms, cause charms, hobby charms, travel charms and even pet charms. Each charm, charm bracelet and necklace retails for just $20. However, Things Remembered is offering the bracelet or necklace with one “First Chapter” starter charm—heart, circle, star or dog-tag-shaped charm—for just $30. (Engraving is a small, additional cost.) I love a gift that is truly unique and tailored to the recipient. Things Remembered truly has mom in mind this Mother’s Day. A beautiful piece of jewelry from Charm Story by Things Remembered combined with your thoughtfulness and a little personalization will definitely make her Mother’s Day. (If you really want to be the “favorite,” pair it with some chocolate!)—Emily
