Celebrate the holidays with Scholastic Storybook Treasures

December 14th, 2009

We love featuring Scholastic Storybook Treasures here on the Daily Dish. My children love the DVDs, which take favorite storybooks and turn them into classic animated stories my kids enjoy watching over and over again. I love how they remind me of my own favorite stories as a child and a simpler time before Spongebob and and his friends.

This holiday season my children are enjoying Scholastic Storybook Treasure’s The Night Before Christmas Special Edition two-pack of DVDs, which features all these great stories:

  • The Night Before Christmas

  • The Twelve Days of Christmas

  • The Clown of God

  • Great Joy in the Month of Kislev

  • Merry Christmas, Space Case

  • Seven Candles for Kwanzaa

  • Too Many Tamales

  • The Little Drummer Boy

  • Max’s Christmas

  • Morris’s Disappearing Bag

  • Sam and the Lucky Monkey

ScholasticThat’s over two hours of multicultural, classic storybook stories! The stories are narrated by Jane Curtin, Anthony Edwards, Christopher Lloyd and other famous voices and the DVDs have won four awards including ALA Notable Video. Really and truly, The Nightmare Before Christmas Special Edition stories are a refreshing break from the “noise” that is Nickelodeon, Disney Channel and even Nick Jr. at times. (I can only handle so much Max & Ruby, even if they’re building a bunny-like snowman.)

You can find the two-pack of DVDs on Scholastic’s site along with a whole slew of wonderful animated classics. (They make great stocking stuffers, by the way!) We have quite the collection and have enjoyed every one. Plus as my younger ones get older they’ll be able to read along with many of the stories. I have yet to see follow-along captions on Wonder Pets! Happy holidays!—Emily
