My new favorite sunglasses for work & play

August 11th, 2011

And by work I mean driving four kids from Utah to California with a very sunny, very long stretch of Nevada between the two states. By play I mean long stretches of fun in the local pool. No matter the activity, my new go-to sunglasses for extended anything are from Ryders Eyewear.

Ryders has been around since 1986 when Brent Martin, on his way to becoming the first Canadian Mountain Bike Champion, wanted a pair of high-performance sunglasses at a budget-friendly price. Ryders Eyewear was the result, and Brent’s been making stylish, sporty, sport-friendly eyewear ever since.

We make performance glasses for human powered activities that get your heart racing. Fun stuff like mountain biking, trail running, hiking, road cycling. If you want to wear your Ryders for other heart pumping activities like rollerblading with your pals, streaking the quad or naked bike riding – please be our guests (and send photos!)

You gotta love an eyewear company with a sense of humor! My favorite thing they do? This:
Making sunglasses is not sending rockets to the moon. What we do is keep it simple, get out of the way of the sunglasses and let them do their job. We make great sunglasses at a great price so that our customers can get outside and perform at their best.

Ryders Eyewear sent me their women’s Solace sunglasses, a sleek, lightweight pair of sunglasses that combine sport and casual…a hybrid of sorts.

Ryders Eyewear Solace

With shatterproof, polarized lenses to reduce glare plus UV protection and a scratch-resistant coating combined with a thermoplastic frame making them durable, flexible and light, you can see why I love these sunglasses for the pool. And the 11-hour car ride. (Flying objects are not unheard of somewhere between the Nevada and California state lines.)

I’ve already mentioned one of my two biggest reasons for loving these glasses (they’re super lightweight). The other reason is the superior coverage. The lenses on the Solace sunglasses are nice and big without being too big. There’s no errant sunlight making it’s way into my eyeballs; my entire view is polarized and shaded and I love it!

Ryders Eyewear Solace

Ryders Eyewear has an awesome selection of women’s sunglasses, from the Drill and Nitrous to the more casual Duchess and Fray designs. Love them all!

As for price, they are right on target with Brent’s vision to design high-performance, stylish, durable sunglasses at a reasonable price. The Solace sunglasses are under $70—a great price for all the benefits this pair offers. You’ll find styles for under $40 all the way up to just under $90. Can’t beat that!

Now if Ryders Eyewear could cut out as much noise as they do glare, the 11-hour drive would be even less painful!—Emily

The perfect spring handbag from Shop Suey Boutique

February 3rd, 2011

At the bottom you’ll find a special promotion for Daily Dish readers from ShopSueyBoutique.com!

About this time of year, when it still tends to snow once in a while and the temps are below 30, I get a serious case of spring fever. And nothing helps cure spring fever more than a fabulous new outfit or accessory, am I right, girls?

Shop Suey Boutique, which I’ve featured before on Boutique Cafe’s Daily Dish, has a wonderful collection of celebrity-inspired handbags (along with some fab jewelry and other accessories). They sent me the Cammy Hobo in off-white, which features super soft leather-like material, silver hardware and lots of pockets. (I love lots of pockets!)

Shop Suey Boutique Cammy Hobo

Though a little larger than my typical handbag, I love this design. It has plenty of room for everything, including my ginormous bag of lip gloss, an extra pair of gloves and extra Kleenex for the 20-degree weather we still have here in Utah. It has a large zippered center divider-style pocket, which would fit a netbook, or in my case, a notebook because I tend to forget everything unless it’s written down.

Shop Suey Boutique Cammy Hobo

Being my first off-white handbag, I wasn’t sure what I’d think of the color, but I am loving it! It goes with everything, even my favorite outfit: jeans and a t-shirt. And even though the Cammy Hobo is oversized for me, I could still find everything easily. Nothing got lost inside that bag, not even that travel pack of Kleenex!

Shop Suey Boutique Cammy Hobo

The only negative thing I was going to say about this bag is no longer true. Here’s the story: When I first got the bag, I thought you had to buckle/unbuckle it when you wanted to open/close it, which left this sort of floppy buckle hanging off the side of the bag. And then at one point I lost the buckle and thought it was a really, really bad design…

...until I realized it had a magnet on the back and you were supposed to keep the strap buckled and simply open and close the handbag using the magnetic closure. (Can you tell I’m a bit slow when I don’t get enough caffeine?)

Shop Suey Boutique Cammy Hobo

So there’s pretty much nothing I don’t like about the Cammy Hobo—including the price (less than $60)! Shop Suey Boutique even has a short video showing you the ins and outs of the Cammy Hobo. You can check it out here.

If you’re starting to feel the onset of spring fever, I recommend you take a look around ShopSueyBoutique.com. I guarantee you’ll find something to boost your wintry spirits—and at a price that will boost your budget!—Emily

Hit those holiday parties in style!

November 24th, 2010

With extensive wish lists, multiple Santa-lap visits and gifts for names drawn during the last family gathering, your Christmas budget leaves little left for anything else. So what’s a girl to do when the company holiday party is around the corner and there’s no money—let alone time—to shop for a new dress? She spices up something she already owns with some fabulous holiday-worthy accessories!

Shop Suey Boutique

Shop Suey BoutiqueRemember Shop Suey Boutique? The online store for celebrity looks without the celebrity price? I mentioned the wonderful collection of handbags but only briefly touched on the jewelry. Well, Shop Suey Boutique has a special holiday boutique that features some really beautiful pieces at really doable prices. I love the fun and funkiness of the Bailey necklace and the Rose clutch in red is to DIE for (see photo toward end of post)! Pair that baby with a chic black dress and some fabulous shoes and you’ll be the hit at the holiday party.

Shop Suey Boutique sent me the Snow Flower necklace (love the name!) from their holiday boutique so I could check it out for Daily Dish readers. I will admit, it’s more necklace than I’d normally wear, but I slipped it on and paraded around in front of the mirror and really liked what I saw. (No, I don’t have a photo. I was wearing my pj’s at the time and you would have been too distracted by my holey t-shirt to notice the necklace!)

Shop Suey BoutiqueI flipped over the necklace and checked out the underside and realized I have a pair of gold earrings that match the gold design on the back perfectly. Though you can’t see it, the back is really pretty too. (The necklace isn’t reversible; I was just curious.) The Snow Flower necklace does come with matching earrings, but I think I might jazz up the ensemble with a little more gold. I’m already planning what I can wear with it and how soon I can parade around somewhere other than my family room! I probably won’t wear it too often, though, as I’m a little worried the gold chain may tarnish, but a fancy piece like this wouldn’t get worn too often anyway for two reasons: one, I don’t go anywhere fancy; two, I have four kids.

Of course you don’t have to stick to what’s in their holiday boutique collection. Browse the rest of the site and I’m sure you’ll find more than one accessory, clutches included, to spice up a holiday party outfit or two. You might even wish you had more parties to attend after you see what Shop Suey Boutique has to offer!

Shop Suey Boutique

Special Black Friday / Cyber Monday Promotion!

To help you with the aforementioned holiday budget crunch, Shop Suey Boutique is celebrating Black Friday and Cyber Monday all weekend long! Shop online at ShopSueyBoutique.com between November 25 (tomorrow!) and November 30 and receive one of four beautiful necklaces FREE with every purchase!* You’ll also enjoy FREE shipping on orders over $75! P.S. Shop Suey Boutique is offering Daily Dish readers 20% off their purchase! Simply enter code cafe20 at checkout. Combine your exclusive discount with the free necklace and free shipping and it’s almost like you got to sit on Santa’s lap!

Find the perfect handbag at Shop Suey Boutique

November 12th, 2010

There’s nothing like a new handbag, whether it be a fancy clutch for a holiday party or a hobo bag for a casual girls’ day out. Of course buying a new handbag every time you feel so inclined (or every time you fall in love with the latest fad) could really put a damper on your budget. Then again, if you found a tote you liked on Shop Suey Boutique (definitely not hard to do), you could totally afford to buy it . . . and a fancy clutch too!

Shop Suey Boutique

Shop Suey BoutiqueStarted by Heather Gray, a self-proclaimed shopaholic (my kind of girl!) and mother of two, Shop Suey Boutique has quickly become a go-to site for your fave celebrity-inspired fashion and “looks for less” styles you see featured in so many celeb magazines. Within days of seeing the hottest new trend in Hollywood, you’ll see that same trend on Shop Suey Boutique. The site also features some of the highest quality faux leather available—it looks and feels like real leather. You won’t find anything that looks super cheap or plastic in this boutique!

But enough background; let’s get into the handbags! Shop Suey Boutique sent me the Maureen satchel in gray to review on Boutique Cafe’s Daily Dish. This faux leather handbag features a woven design on the front with chic-yet-sturdy hardware and a detachable shoulder strap.

Shop Suey Boutique

It also has a good variety of pockets (two small interior storage pockets; cell and sunglasses pockets; outside zipper pocket) and the cutest interior fabric.

Shop Suey Boutique

Though I thought the bag would be slightly bigger (silly me didn’t check the dimensions), it is the perfect size for everyday use. And I would say its cell phone and sunglasses pockets are the best out of any of my handbags. They are the perfect width and perfect depth so I don’t lose a cell phone when I bend over to pick up yet another piece of Target popcorn Livi has dropped on the ground.

The Maureen satchel’s “leather like” material really is soft and leathery-feeling. Of course it doesn’t have that leather smell, but it also doesn’t have that leather price! The dark gray color goes well with everything and I’ve already had a couple compliments on it.

Shop Suey BoutiqueThe Maureen satchel from Shop Suey Boutique is a little subdued for my taste (my fault—I did pick the style and color), so I’m thinking I may need to change it out for the Meryll hobo in purple. I mean, can you blame me? It’s adorable! And for the price, why the heck not? While I’m online I may pick up the Helen bracelet to go with it!—Emily

JustGano, the membership club for jewelry lovers {giveaway}

July 29th, 2010

JustGanoYou’ve heard of those “of the month” clubs where you’re shipped a new item every month; of course it’s usually something like steak, fruit or candy. As much as I’d enjoy receiving a new decadent treat every month, the dessert (and the sugar high) wouldn’t last very long. If I’m part of an of-the-month club, that of-the-month item better be worth its weight in gold, or at least worth a bit more than my membership fee.

JustGanoThat’s why I think the concept behind JustGano is so dang cool. It’s a membership site for jewelry lovers. No, it’s not simply a “ring of the month” club. We’re talking necklaces, earrings, bracelets and rings. And the collection is gorgeous! Here’s how it works:

  • Choose your JustGano membership level from The Deb (1 item for $7.95 per month ), The Demi (3 items for $21.95 per month) or The Diva (6 items for $39.95 per month). Did you notice that last plan averages just over $6 per item? Crazy!

  • Create an account and start adding items to your wish list.

  • Every month you’ll be shipped an item (or items) from your wish list free of charge (i.e., free shipping) within 3 to 6 days.

  • No cancellation fee and you can cancel any time.

That’s it! And the process is super easy. JustGano set me up with an account for the purpose of this review. I was able to easily browse their collection of jewelry, which you can do whether or not you have an account, and settled on the Wire-Wrapped Double Gypsy Hoop. The item was shipped quickly and arrived in a beautiful gift box:

The earrings were just as beautiful in person, if not more so, and I could tell they were well made. I couldn’t wait to wear them and so planned an outfit around my new earrings. Like you haven’t done that before!

Just Gano_Emily

I’ve actually worn them a couple times and each time I do I get compliments. Of course, they look better on JustGano’s model, but they’re still super fabulous!

JustGanoI do seriously love jewelry and am seriously considering a Deb membership. I enjoy sprucing up my jewelry collection but don’t like spending a lot of money on accessories. Of course, being too budget-conscious can backfire when your Forever 21 accessories don’t last more than a few wears. JustGano seems like the perfect option for chic, stylish, budget-friendly jewelry.

Right now I’m eying the Fleur Necklace. It might be making its way into my wish list just in time for my birthday. Happy birthday to me!—Emily

Ellington’s Bella Hobo: A simply breathtaking (multitasking) handbag

April 27th, 2010

Ellington HandbagsIt has been far too long since I’ve been able to review a chic diaper bag (my fave is still my Amy Michelle Gladiola), but that’s okay because I no longer give a true, dedicated diaper bag a full-fledged test drive. Yes, I still have one in diapers (even the world’s blingiest crown won’t get her out of them) but my youngest are now old enough I can survive on much less. It’s been a long time coming, trust me!

Ellington Bella ToteAs nifty as it is for me to be out of the diaper-bag phase, I still need a handbag that can multitask as well—or better—than I do. Though I don’t require room for multiple changes of clothes, bottles, pacifiers, Cheerio-filled snack cups and board books, I do require space for a couple fruit snack packets, one Hot Wheels, a few Smarties (less messy than suckers) and my Envirosax reusable tote.

And then I want to be able to use that same bag to hold my HP Vivienne Tam netbook, old-school notebook, pen, extra business cards and other necessary gear when I head to a networking event or conference.

Oh, and then I want that same handbag to transition to a chic, fabulous accessory for a night on the town. Not a small order but not impossible, especially for Ellington Handbags, and more especially for Ellington’s Bella Hobo handbag.

First, a little bit about Ellington (I think I might need to work for this company):

When we’re not at work, we’re musicians, writers, and artists; sailors, cyclists, and marathon runners; moms and dads and aunties and uncles; cooks and gardeners and avid knitters. We think life is an adventure, and a good handbag should carry whatever you need, wherever your adventures take you. We create each bag to be your perfect companion; the one you want by your side every day, whether you’re picking out veggies at the local farmer’s market or boarding a plane to Budapest. Just enough pockets, but not too many. A strap that fits on your shoulder as if it was made just for you. Luxurious leathers and fabrics that feel good, look good, and wear well. But what about style? Don’t worry—we’ve got you covered. We know that looking good feels good, so we focus on classic-chic designs that you’ll feel good carrying not only for a season, but for years and years.

And now for Ellington’s Bella Hobo. Gosh, I’m in heaven just writing about this handbag! The company sent me the Bella Hobo because of its multitasking abilities all hidden inside the yummiest Italian leather. Now, they didn’t say “yummiest Italian leather” but I’m saying it. It was yummy the moment I opened the box:

Ellington Bella Hobo

Ellington Bella Hobo hardwareYou can’t tell from this picture but this handbag smells fabulous. You can ask my husband’s friend who walked through the door just after I opened to box because I had him take a whiff of that fab Italian leather. An architect with an eye for good design (and not afraid to comment on a woman’s handbag), he too thought it a chic and stylish accessory. Seriously. I’m not just saying that.

I couldn’t wait to test this bag’s ability to handle all this blogger needs when attending an event. I loved that it had not only super sturdy handles with awesome hardware but an optional shoulder strap, which comes in handy when holding a child on one hip and the hand of another. I filled it with the necessary items and still had room to spare if I’d wanted to throw in another couple hundred business cards. (Okay, I’m not THAT popular but a girl can dream, can’t she?)

Ellington Bella Hobo

Sort of clockwise from top left: small leather notebook; reusable tote; sunglasses case; wallet; netbook; business cards; business card holder #1 (this one holds customer appreciation cards and gift cards); power cord for netbook; keys.

What you don’t see: cell phone and expo tickets (outside pocket); business card holder #2 (other outside pocket); two lip glosses (inside pockets); pack of gum.

Ellington Bella Hobo toteAnd yet even chock full of expo goodies, this handbag doesn’t look like it’s “working.” And it would look just as fantastic if it were hiding diapers and wipes (and that extra change of clothes). No matter what’s inside, you’ll look like you’re ready for a day of shopping and lunch out with girlfriends—or better yet, a day wandering around the streets of Rome or Milan. Perhaps that’s the next test run I should take with my Ellington Bella Hobo handbag...

Ellington Ramoli toteEvery Ellington handbag is beautiful, classic, chic, unique…and yummy. And so are the prices. Most of their handbags retail for under $200, which is a steal considering the craftsmanship, design and that supple Italian leather. Don’t want to spend that much on a handbag for yourself? Mother’s Day is around the corner; let your husband finally get his Mother’s Day gift-giving right!—Emily

Jewelry storage disguised as art {giveaway}

December 11th, 2009

I have a lot of earrings and a very tiny jewelry box. This means any time I want to find a matching pair of earrings it’s like a hunt for buried treasure. Though I’ve tried to organize them a bit, there’s no helping the tangled mess that is my dangly earring collection. Something had to be done, but none of those oversized jewelry boxes appealed to me so I hit Etsy, one of my favorite places to shop.

il_430xN.95228114I was not disappointed, for I came across KikiBella, which boasts “fashionable storage for your fabulous style.” I’m not sure I have fabulous style but I do need some fashionable (and functional) storage for my earrings and I found it in KikiBella’s earring organizers/jewelry displays. Kristie, the owner and designer of these fabric works of art, sent me the organizer that first caught my eye (Watercolors II) so I could review it on the Daily Dish and find out firsthand if her jewelry displays were as fabulous in real life as they look on Etsy. Because Watercolors II is not the typical size for a bellabella organizer (it’s slightly smaller), she also sent me one that was a typical size and one from the babybella collection (for children’s rooms; pictured at right).

Each KikiBella display is handmade using picked, “poke-proof” fabrics and trims. You’ll find everything from Japanese imports to vintage fabrics in the collection. The displays include two hand-cut, stained, varnished wood pieces, one at the top with two circular pieces for hanging the display and one on the bottom with a handful of hooks for hanging larger earrings, bracelets or necklaces. The minute I opened my Watercolors II KikiBella jewelry organizer I headed for my room to find the perfect place to display it. No, it wouldn’t go in my closet with the not-so-artistic hooks I have for my necklaces; it needed a spot worthy of a work of art since the colors matched my room’s decor perfectly. And I found just the place: right next to my closet on a wall that was quite possibly designed just for a KikiBella jewelry organizer:

Though not all earrings will work well (hoop earrings would have to be pretty close to the edge), I found the KikiBella display perfect for all my large dangly earrings and random earrings I don’t wear as often, plus the hooks on the bottom worked well for my favorite skinny bracelets. I did find a couple pairs of earrings easily slipped out of the fabric if I moved it around too much when adding another pair, but that was due more to the style of earring (a very wide, open hook style) and the double gauze fabric, which is unique to Watercolors II. The other fabrics in the collection aren’t quite is “filmy” as the one I choose.

The best part? No more jumbled earrings in my jewelry box! That little, old box has a new lease on life and I spend a lot less time digging through it looking for matching earrings. Apparently Kristie has a couple organizers hanging here and there in her home, for example, one in the bathroom and another in the bedroom. Though I’m one that needs everything kept in one place, I can totally see a use for having multiple ones depending on where you take off your jewelry.

il_430xN.105908602The babybella jewelry organizers are super cute and would make a great gift for pre-teen girls who seem to have more earrings sets than See’s has candies! Kristie can even do custom designs combining your choice of fabric with your choice of wood pieces. (They come in a variety of finishes.) And unless you’re going for a custom order, KikiBella orders ship within 1 or 2 days via Priority Mail so you’re only days away from becoming beautifully organized—or days away from giving a wonderfully unique and stylishly functional gift for the holidays.

*** Giveaway! KikiBella is giving away one jewelry organizer/earring display, winner’s choice! Here’s how to enter. You can do as many of these as you’d like. Each one is worth one entry into our giveaway; please leave a separate comment for each one you do:
•   Visit KikiBella on Etsy and leave a comment telling us your favorite design.
•   Tweet about this giveaway and leave a comment with the URL of your tweet.
•   Blog about this giveaway and leave a comment with the URL to your blog post.

  • Congratulations to Patricia, the winner of the KikiBella giveaway! Thank you to everyone who took the time to read the review and add a comment. Keep reading the Daily Dish for your chance to participate in more giveaways!

The Bag Lady

December 2nd, 2009

weekend_bag_brown_polyesterI am the bag lady. I received a weekender bag from Peasant & Travelers and i love it.

It is made for a man, yet perfect for me. It is a metro man’s bag. Designer Jee Kim has designed a refined and contemporary line that delivers exceptional detailing that marries style and function for men.

But…hold up. It is just perfect for a lady too.

It’s big but not too big. Small but not too small. Sounds like a contradiction right?
Yet, the bag is just that—big but small.

Big in that it fits so much!
I took off for the weekend and I put it to the test because I didn’t want it to look like I packed my closet, but, I also needed 3 pairs of shoes, plus warm and cool clothes. Suffice to say I got my 3 pairs of shoes in and all outfits I wanted to bring. I didn’t have to skimp on my packing and I didn’t need a mule to carry my load.

It is small enough to strap on your shoulder and carry as an adorable oversized bag. The classic brown exterior with bright cobalt blue and white gingham interior has all the makings of a must-have bag. It really could be for the male or female in your life. It has durable material, pockets inside & out and the bag can collapse down flat.

This cool urban overnighter bag is durable and versatile.
I pretty much love my new bag and think you would love one too. Really…it could be used for more than just packing up your closet and going. It could be your toy bag, your picnic bag, your errands bag. I love it and think you will too!

It can be found online at Peasants & Travelers.

Jumeau—distinctly stylish belts & bags

August 18th, 2009

I’m not one to pass up the chance to review a new handbag or other accessory, especially if it’s from a company new to me. If it’s new to me then there’s a good chance it’s also new to some of our readers and all the more reason to feature it on the Daily Dish!

Jumeau is a new-to-me collection of unique, stylish, professional, trendy, hip handbags and belts. The company’s focus may be on “premium function with exceptional materials” but the line is also all about design that “complements your body.” Have you ever known a company creating its designs with your body’s contours in mind? Didn’t think so.

Jumeau sent me the Zoe handbag and Hip P belt from their Institution Collection. This is by far my favorite collection, but I tend to lean more towards a professional look than hip and trendy. Yes, totally boring but what can I say? I can say the Zoe handbag is even better in person. The “razberry” color is rich and yummy while the rip-stop fabric adds a bit of fun. I love the “Better than Leather” abrasian-resistant material used in the trim—my bags can take a beating when hauling four kids around! Though it looks on the small side, this little bag is really rather roomy with pockets inside and out, including two magnetic easy-access pockets, something I think every handbag should have. The only thing this magnificent little bag is missing is a matching pair of shoes. (Don’t worry, I’ll get on that right away!)

As for the Hip P belt, those little floral etchings turn what could be a very masculine belt into something wonderfully feminine. Unfortunately the size they sent was a little too large for how tight I like to wear my jeans so I haven’t been able to wear it, but I still pull it out and look at it so I can check out those super sweet etchings. Right now it’s only available in two sizes, large and extra large. Jumeau seriously needs to add two smaller sizes to the mix unless their target customer wears her pants below her butt cheeks. Perhaps I should try that…Hmmm…

Jumeau has five collections: Deft, Now (very trendy), Institution, Green (focuses on natural materials) and Commando (go, camo!). Not every collection offers belts but they all offer some truly unique styles. By the way, Jumeau also incorporates sustainable and recycled materials and offers a 45-day, no questions asked, satisfaction guarantee AND a 5-year replacement warranty. Okay, I’ve NEVER heard of any kind of warranty on any handbag I’ve purchased. That’s gotta make you feel good…almost as good as you feel when toting around a bag that complements your body…—Emily

BondiBand…makes great headbands.

June 8th, 2009

What a perfect time for the perfect hair accessory!

I don’t do my hair very often but in the summer that doing drastically decreases. 99% of the time my hair is in a ponytail and the other 1% it is pulled back falling out of the ponytail during summer months.
I received 2 bondiband’s one patterned headband and the other a solid color. I was eager to accessorize my ponytail look and add some style! I have a very small head I’ve come to figure out. While the headband stayed in my head for an hour within two hours it was falling out. These headbands are better than most in that I get a good hour before it falls out. But, I do believe its my small head not the headband at fault here. I really do have quite the time finding fitted hats and headbands! So, I had friends try it out and they lasted all day with the headband not sliding off and not giving them a headache.
Because my ponytail style could use some style I was eager to accessorize with the headbands, but, because of my small head it won’t stay on my head all day. So, the way I use the bondiband is when I exercise. It is the ideal headband to keep my hair out of my face because it is so light and made of breathable material.
On the go gals this accessory is for you. Bondiband offers an array of colors and styles and it can complete any look.-Amber

Oh, Goody! It’s spring!

February 18th, 2009

GoodyOkay, it’s not really spring (oh, how I wish it were!) but it sure feels like spring in my girls’ bathroom. We recently received samples from Full Bloom, the new spring line from Goody arriving in Target stores this month, and the collection is full of flirty florals and feminine colors. It’s almost enough to make me throw on some shorts and a pair of flip-flops. If only it were 30 degrees warmer and not snowing I’d be all over that!

I wish I had images to show you but alas, I could only find a couple and they weren’t even on Goody’s site. (The headbands pictured are the Flower Child headwraps.) I checked Target.com but I believe the collection is available in stores only. As soon as I receive a few images I will update this post, as you have to see these fabulous headbands, clips, scarves and ponytail holders for yourself! You’ll get spring fever for sure. When they arrived I actually raided the box before my girls could get to it. I pulled out the Misty Morning scarf and He Loves Me bobby slides for myself before letting the girls have at the rest. I’d have grabbed the Sweet Blossom ponypins but if you’ve seen my profile pic you’ll know I have no way of using them!

GoodyAlready my girls have worn the Spring Day headband quite a few times, probably because its super soft and stretchy (no headband headaches with that one) and the Wildflower headband, which is one of their favorites. My youngest, though not “mature” enough for a scarf, loves to walk around like a princess wearing the Rainbow Sorbet scarf around her shoulders. How does a 1-1/2-year-old girl know to do that? I swear they come programmed! What I really love about the new collection is all the soft fabric headbands. (My favorite is the Spring Showers band) I don’t care how much attention is paid to details when it comes to the standard headband—you just can’t avoid getting those behind-the-ear aches if you wear them for very long. Along with fun florals they have quite a few tie-dyed pieces, which are a lot of fun for moms and kids.

Goody’s Full Bloom collection also includes some really sweet clips. My favorites are the ones hiding in my drawer, the He Loves Me bobby slides. I also really like the Buttercup bobby slides and Robin’s Egg jeanwire. Believe it or not, I’ve probably only named about half the products in the new Full Bloom line. And even though they’re very “girly” many of the styles can be worn by 30-somethings like myself without looking like we’re not dressing our age. I don’t much like to share but when it comes to Goody’s Full Bloom hair accessories, I don’t mind so much (except for the aforementioned bobby slides…those are all mine!).

GoodyYou can find the Full Bloom collection exclusively at Target stores from February to May. Prices range from $1.99 to $7.49. If you want to start thinking spring I’d start shopping the hair accessory aisle at Target immediately!—Emily

Goody will dazzle you and comfort you this holiday season

October 27th, 2008

GoodyWe have a drawer full of hair accessories, 75% of which are Goody. Whether I’m looking for simply yet strong hair elastics or stay-put clips, Goody has what I want at a price I’m more than willing to pay. But besides changing up some of their colors and adding a few fun headbands Goody hasn’t changed much…until now.

This is a review my girls thoroughly enjoyed. What girl doesn’t love new hair clips, barrettes and headbands especially if they’re ouchless or sparkly. We received samples for both of Goody’s new lines, the Ouchless collection and Holiday Jewels collection, and all three of us girls loved them all!

GoodyIf you or your girls have sensitive heads (I’m pretty hard headed myself so I guess I’ll use the “old” stuff) then Goody’s Ouchless collection is perfect. The original Ouchless accessory was a line of brushes in 2004 and I’m really glad they’ve expanded it to include elastics, claw clips, barrettes and headbands. The Claw Clip is designed with curved teeth to prevent digging and flexible wings that give slightly when you lean back (i.e., you won’t feel like 10 tiny daggers are digging into your skull should you lean back in your chair). The Updo Barrettes are soft, flexible and metal-free and the Headband features a soft, contoured shape and flexible tips so you can avoid the dull, aching pain that often accompanies headband use. That was probably my favorite accessory for that reason alone!

GoodyOuchless is good but sparkly is even better, at least my girls thought so. Even though we had no place to go my girls were sporting some serious holiday style the moment we opened the Holiday Jewels samples. I tried to have them save the accessories for a special occasion but gave that up pretty quickly. They’re Goody so they’re good to last; why not have fun with them even if they’re just heading outside to play. The only problem was deciding just what to wear: the festive barrettes? the dazzling headbands? So many sparkles, so little time!

GoodyFortunately some styles are more conducive to everyday jazzing up, like the Metallic Snowflake headband or the Dasher headband. My faves are the Glitz Glam headband (soft and comfy), Gumdrop bobby slides (great for short-haired girls like me), Sugarplum headband (not the most comfortable but very cute) and the Very Merry StayPut claw clip (probably my most favorite—too bad I can’t wear it!) If your budget doesn’t include a new dress for the company party, don’t worry. Goody’s got you covered! Their Holiday Jewels collection—exclusive to Target—is a great way to glam up for the evening. Plus, it’s Goody so you know it’s high-quality and affordable. My kind of holiday shopping!—Emily

Note: I couldn’t find images of my favorite Holiday Jewels accessories but you can find them exclusively at your local Target store from now through February 2009.

Studio i|m gives a stylish touch to your active lifestyle

August 24th, 2008

Studio i|mWe’ve reviewed some awesome workout gear from SkirtSports, and now I have a great set of accessories from Studio i|m’s active line to complement your new Footloose dress. The i|m active collection was designed specifically for the “active woman’s lifestyle.”

Studio i|mWith what Studio i|m calls ActiveHold Technology these hair accessories grip into place and won’t slip or fall out. Though I have a fairly active lifestyle (trips to the gym, yoga and chasing after four kids) I have pretty short hair so I had my girls try out a couple i|m products. We loved how the hair elastics with their ActiveHold tread were grippy enough to keep their ponytails in place but not so grippy they pulled out the hair when the girls were done using them.

Studio i|mMy favorite, which worked just as well in my short hair is it did in their long, was the FeatherWeight black hair wrap. This headband was truly light as a feather (i.e. didn’t cause a headache after lengthy wear) and stayed put no matter how many double-takes I did (is that really permanent marker on the carpet?). And I loved the Sport Clips because their rubber tread holds wet hair really well, which is a great help when you’re trying to give your girls’ hair a trim and it’s your first time giving them a haircut!

Whether you have short hair or long, play on a high-school sports team or run a daily marathon chasing after children you’ll find the perfect hair accessory for your active lifestyle from Studio i|m’s active collection.—Emily
