While attending Quilt Market in Salt Lake City I had the opportunity to sit down for a quick interview with my dear friends Kim and Kris of The DIYDish! As you can see when we get together we turn into giggly girls, I sure love them. Kim and Kris share news regarding the remainder of their show season on TheDIYDish.com, as well as the news that Kris is opening a brick and mortar quilt shop in Utah called My Girlfriend’s Quilt Shoppe. This awesome new shoppe will open on June 6th, and for those not in the immediate area they have us all covered with a website as well. These talented gals will be moving their production studio into the store, we can’t wait to see all of those DIYDish projects rolling out of their new studio.

DIY Nests for Your Christmas Owl Buddies – Tutorial

For Christmas this year I wanted to gift my “oodles” of darling nieces and nephews with something handmade from me. I decided to use the Owl Pattern from my friends Kim and Kris at www.thediydish.com to make my owl buddies. Then I created a little nest for each owl to sit in, now they can set them on their dressers and have a little bed for their owls to nap in.

What is needed for this project:
Small wreath from Michaels or your local craft store
glue gun
glue sticks
feather boa (if desired)
wood strips/filler (could use paper raffia)
styrofoam eggs (not required but I had some lying around the house)

Lola Olivia Arrives!!

Dear friends, I want to share my immense joy with you as we welcome our new little daughter Lola Olivia into our family. She arrived on Thursday evening at 9:52 pm weighing in at 6 pds 5 ounces, 20 inches long, and sporting lots of dark gorgeous hair. Nathan and I are completely overwhelmed with love for our princess, we’ve waited for her for so long, and it was a very rough pregnancy/delivery. Thankfully our girl is here safe and sound, and beautiful!

Our four boys have been dotting on her and loving her up so much. They are over the moon to have a sister of their very own. Thank you so much for all of your prayers and support through my pregnancy, many of you got me through these months and I’ll never forget it. I hope to be back to Boutique Cafe very shortly, but in the meantime I’m wrapped up in Lola and enjoying each moment of her first few days. I’ll share a link to see more and more pics of our Lola, I’ll be adding more so feel welcome to stop by and gush with me over her.

I can scarcely believe I’m typing our 5th Birthday post, but its true! 5 years ago this month Boutique Cafe launched with our very first show featuring boutique designer Lark, and her precious daughter and model Sophie. Since then we’ve welcomed some incredible guests, hosted celebrities, bonded together as a community, played some fun games, held countless contests and giveaways, recommended hundreds of products for you and your family, travelled to meet each other at our 1st Boutique Cafe Girls Getaway Conference, hosted a live feed at Quilt Market, spotlighted tons of mompreneurs in our popular 12 Days of Christmas shows, and have even been sponsored by big name companies like Aveeno Baby from Johnson & Johnson! Whew, I’m tired!!

That is just a sprinkling of what we have been able to accomplish together, each day I hear stories of how members of our community have followed their dreams and gone on to great success. All the while we at Boutique Cafe have been cheering you on, bringing you new inspiration, and in several cases given our guests a platform to get their message out to the world. We are so honored to support women and moms in their businesses, its what brings us the most joy! And when I hear that we’ve made a difference to you, well it honestly touches me to the core.

I am currently working on posting a NEW podcast as well as a huge gaggle of Giveaways! Keep a close watch on the site for this in the coming day or two!

A little Vacay

Greetings Boutique Cafe viewers! I’ll be basking in the summer sun of California with my family for the next few days. If you have inquiries feel free to send them through, I will have my laptop and will check in intermittently. Emily will still be here posting Daily Dish reviews, so stop by often. I’m hoping to capture some fun footage for Boutique Cafe while I’m there, as well as have some baby gender news this coming Saturday. We’ll be heading to an ultrasound while on our vacation and will let you know if this bundle is our 5th boy or 1st girl! Stay tuned for that news.

Digital Moms – Today Show pt. 2

The online influence of Digital Moms are in hot demand these days. In the second part of The Today Show’s series on Digital Moms, Ann Curry interviews Teri Walter Razorfish, and Wendy Piersall Founder and CEO of Sparkplugging.com. They also feature Melissa Garcia – Consumer Queen who saves money – snags coupons – promotes bargains – and educates other women how to do the same on her popular website.

“Moms want to hear from other moms. They don’t want to hear from a Corporate company. They want to hear from someone just like them.” – Melissa Garcia

The key to product success is knowing your audience, and with approx. 30,000,000 women online it’s essential to reach out to them through someone they trust. I’m sure many of us remember the backlash behind the Motrin ads on baby wearing. Moms spoke up online, and Motrin pulled the ad realizing that they had offended many of their target audience.

Moms are not only influencing other moms with their product reviews, but they are also influencing corporate America. Advertisers are now reaching out to these mom bloggers and site owners, providing free products for a recommendation on their sites. Wendy Piersall, gives her advice to moms who may be interested in providing a voice online, but also stresses the amount of work and time it takes before things payoff – it can take years. “It’s really rewarding” – she says.

For most, the opportunity to reach out online and connect with others is the biggest benefit of being a mom in the digital age. Social networks provide a chance for camaraderie and friendship.

Boutique Cafe made some history today at Quilt Market, as we are the first media outlet to offer a live feed directly from Market! What a thrilling (and scary) experience to attempt such a technical feat on my own. We taped within the press room and invited special guests Patty Young, Paula Prass and Elizabeth Cranmer to join me. Our feed went live at 11:30 am on Ustream.tv, we thank many of you viewers for popping by to support our live show with your questions and comments. You’re the best!

We loved the Live Feed option so much that we’re going to do another one tomorrow morning (Sunday) as well. It’s International Quilt Market this weekend in Houston, Texas, and Boutique Cafe will be there covering the event as media!

This time around I’m eager to try something a little bit different for our community, and offer a LIVE VIDEO FEED from Market on Saturday!! This is of course dependent on the quality of the internet connection at the Convention Centre, so if glitches arise please bear with us as we’ll have other coverage as well.

So, if you’d like to join in a little Boutique Cafe history with me this Saturday, Oct. 25th (approx. 11:30 am Houston time) – we’ll give it our best college try, and see if we can hold live interviews, in real-time for you!!

Show number 100 is on the way…(my computer has had a nasty case of the hiccups and the video footage needs to be re-edited). But never fear it will be up very soon, that’s the life of a podcaster.

I can’t believe that we’ve been around that long, and I know it’s because of each and every one of you that we’re able to say that. Thank you all for supporting Boutique Cafe through these past years, I know many of you have listened to each episode, visited daily and still hang out with us around the site since day one. There are so many of you that contribute your ideas, comments, suggestions, time & friendship here.
