I’ve been known to wear repeater outfits, but this week I have taken repeat to a whole new level. I have worn the same sweater 6 days in a row. That is right 6 days!
I received the Lightweight Cotton Ribbed Tie Wrap (CD2050) from Margaret O’Leary collection and I can’t take it off. Perhaps on the day of rest, I will give the sweater a rest! This sweater is my go-to with every outfit. The color is a beautiful sea color that actually can be paired with many hues.
First day I put it over a white blouse with my jeans. Second day it was all about sweats but the sweater helped upgrade my look a bit. Third day I wore it with a patterned shirt and khakis. Fourth day I thought I’d go without, but, the weather turned and my dress needed another layer, so the sweater got worn again. Fifth day was my usual repeater from day one and the sixth day I paired it with a turtleneck b/c the weather was now freezing! So, you can see—it is the perfect sweater. Not to bulky, but enough warmth. Not to bright, but enough color. Not to trendy , but, enough style to make a statement. It really is the perfect sweater for all seasons. The perfect sweater for all shapes.
Margaret O’Leary is known for high quality yarns, and for her blend of timeless and classic design elements with modern, artistic fashion sensibilities. This fashion designer not only has nailed the perfect sweater she has also created the perfect spring shirt.
I also received the cotton silk voile pintuck tunic (679CS) and loved its look with denim. I didn’t sport this blouse 6 days in a row, but, I can see how this basic would get some nice use through Spring and Summer.
Margaret O’Leary’s collection is carried in boutiques all across the country. If you are searching for the perfect basics and willing to pay out for quality stuff that will look good and last. Check out her incredible line online at margaretoleary.com.-Amber
The go-to sweater and the adorable spring tunic blouse are available online at margaretoleary.com.
That phrase is from one of my favorite 80’s tunes (I shouldn’t have to tell you but it’s “Just Can’t Get Enough” by Depeche Mode…can you believe it’s a Wikipedia entry?!) and it runs through my head whenever I catch site of a pair of See Kai Run shoes (even the ones my kids have worn umpteen times).
No matter how many times we feature See Kai Run on the Daily Dish, I can’t get enough! Hopefully you’re not satiated either or we’ll have to stop reviewing their latest and greatest and simply-the-cutest styles and you’ll miss out on one of our favorite giveaways–and some fabulous shoes to boot (pun totally intended)!
Today’s featured shoe is from See Kai Run’s new Spring Collection, and it is to die for! The Jennae takes the peep-toe style and turns it into a shoe fit for your mini me! It comes complete with butter-soft sheepskin leather in a delicious raspberry color accented with cream piping and the sweetest little flower on the strap. Like other See Kai Run shoes it features a flexible sole, which makes it perfect for growing feet but can hold up to all those outdoor garden parties. Unfortunately, we live in Utah and you won’t find garden parties until mid June. Peep toe and snow don’t mix well!
In true See Kai Run style, the Jennae has a generous width with a wider toe box. This means even the chubbiest of feet can wear See Kai Run shoes. Honestly, we have not had a pair that hasn’t fit perfectly, and I’ve tried out many pairs and two sets of chunky feet! The shoes also have a breathable inner sole and lining, so no juicy feet even in warmer weather. (Maybe I should see about getting some custom-made SKR’s for myself!)
For some the price tag that comes with a pair of See Kai Run shoes is a bit high, but I’m telling you, they are more than worth it. These shoes last forever, and once your little one has grown out of them you can hand them down to the next–often in near perfect condition. And if you don’t have a “next,” See Kai Run shoes have great resale value. Plus right now See Kai Run has a few of their styles on sale in both their main collection and their newer Smaller line. Just try to control yourself when looking at the new Spring Collection. Like myself (and Depeche Mode), you won’t be able to get enough either! –Emily

Remember the AMAZING pillows I reviewed last week? Square Feathers, The Haute Couture for decorative pillows. Well, Square Feathers has launched a luxury line for the little ones in your life. Kids Kashmere.
The name alone lets you know this little luxury line is full of class. The fabrics are warm, soft and cozy like cashmere wool, but, kid friendly felt. The colors are an assortment of bright crayola colors and the theme? Too cute for words. Take a look…
The selection of darling animal friends include a pillow and a blanket making it a perfect gift set for any child or wannabe child. The Pig and a Blanket is perfect for my sister that has a sa-weet Pig collection that she can’t seem to outgrow and any dog lover would adore the puppy and blanket combo. Each little blanket and pillow duo, captures an adorable friendly face of a cute animal with a coordinating blanket.
The same high quality that is taken into account with the decorative line for living spaces is transferred to the kids line. Each pillow is hand sewn…another reason I love this line -it is made in the good ol’ U.S. of A and is handcrafted.-Amber
** Giveaway! Kids Kashmere has given us one of their cute pillow and blanket combos to give away to a lucky Daily Dish reader! (The Frog and a blanket is the set.) Please visit the Square Feathers website and leave a comment on this post telling us your favorite pillow collection. Make sure you include a valid email address for our drawing. We’ll draw the winner from the comments and contact her via email. Deadline: April 6, 2009 (midnight). The winner will have 24 hours to claim her prize or a new winner will be chosen.
The above title should be sung to the tune of “I’m bringing home a baby bumblebee…” And my daughter will be so proud of me because it’s a super warm yet super stylish stroller accessory perfect for this cold winter weather we’re still experiencing here in the Salt Lake valley.
The BonneBonnets product line is for “Moms and Dads who want to stroll in style and add a touch of uniqueness and creativity to their strollers.” The collection consists of exclusive stroller Canopies that are available in a variety of styles (my fave is the Brooke) and Buntings, which are available in two styles (my fave is the chestnut).
BonneBonnets sent me one of their Buntings (aka “a footmuff of unsurpassed luxury, style and comfort”) to review on the Daily Dish. The Bunting’s patent-pending design includes PVC-free, hypoallergenic, ultra soft foam for warmth; plush, breathable cotton for comfort; and a design made to fit any stroller and which can even expand to fit toddlers. BonneBonnets is all about using the finest materials and superior craftsmanship yet their Buntings are machine washable. This is a must when it comes to stroller accessories that fit inside the stroller. It also has a bottom flap and back clips to keep it securely in place; no slipping and sliding when Mom takes a corner too quickly!
I was really excited to test out our raspberry Bunting, but due to unforeseen circumstances, namely unseasonably warm weather followed by a flu-ridden infant, I wasn’t able to take out the Bunting for a test stroll. But that doesn’t mean I didn’t unroll the Bunting and thoroughly check it out. I pulled at seams, buttons and smooshed the headrest to make sure it was as nicely padded as they claimed. I zipped and unzipped and checked out the fabric for softness. Though the denim-like material wasn’t super soft the breathable cotton lining was, and that’s most important! My favorite feature was the cute interior pocket where my little one can place her hands if they get too chilly.
My little one is finally feeling better after a long bout with the flu and just my luck, the snow is still falling here in Utah, so I may get my chance to test out our cute BonneBonnets Bunting before the spring thaw. And even if I don’t, knowing Utah it will start snowing again September 1st so it won’t be long before we can take it for daily test drives!
If spring weather has already hit (or summer weather if you’re in Arizona), then check out BonneBonnets’ super chic Canopies. The Canopy is designed to fit all Bugaboo stroller models and are a simple yet stylish way to pimp your stroller (for lack of a better expression). With ten styles from which to choose you’ll find the perfect one to suit your personality. After learning more about the BonneBonnets collection of stroller accessories, I have to agree with their statement:”So say goodbye boring baby gear and bonjour bonnebonnets!” –Emily
** Giveaway! BonneBonnets has given us one of their cute Canopies to give away to a lucky Daily Dish reader! (The style we have on hand isn’t featured online but it is super cute!) Please visit the BonneBonnets website and leave a comment on this post telling us your favorite Canopy style; include a valid email address for our drawing. We’ll draw the winner from the comments and contact her via email. Deadline: April 3, 2009 (midnight). The winner will have 24 hours to claim her prize or a new winner will be chosen.

Anyone that knows me knows I am a walker. I don’t run. I walk. But, anyone that has seen me this past week…has seen me RUN.
Reason being is I received a pair of ENDfootwear PBnJ running shoes and with the shoes on my feet I pretty much now like running, which is reason alone for me to love these shoes.
I am an avid walker. I walk 5 days a week, but, sometimes I wish I were a runner. I like the way running makes you feel. You lose your breath. You sweat. You get tired. All the things that indicate you are really working out. Running really conditions my heart. So, for all those reasons I try to do the walk/run thing occasionally, but, I always seem to end up walking.
Turns out my shoes may have been the problem (yeah I am sure it is ALL that…nothing to do with my lack of determination or anything;) But, really I do think the shoes were a bigger problem than I ever realized. I buy Nike’s-always have. I usually buy whatever is on sale. For the most part, I like what I buy. They fit me well and they look good. But, sometimes you don’t know what you are missing until you experience something different.
ENDfootwear sent me a pair of PBnJ running shoes and now I know what I have been missing! They really are onto something. Minimalist construction that streamlines mesh webbing and supportive lining make it a light-weight shoe that gives you a skip in your step. The shoes feel drastically different from my other running shoes. They support my arches but feel light in all the other areas of the shoe.
The construction of the shoe is made with natural materials like bamboo-infused linings and non-toxic glues eliminating all unnecessary plastics and components to make it a very light running shoe.
And let’s not forget to talk about the looks of the shoe…
It is a simple design with rich colors. Ranging in 3 colors in the PBnJ women style: sapphire and white, celery and white or white and grapefruit. I like the simplicity of having one main color along with an accent color. Nothing too loud or obnoxious down below. Just a simple running shoe that is very streamlined in the color and design. Environmental Neutral Design shoes might be just the thing to get you running.
Home accessories are to a house what shoes are to an outfit- it gives a statement. It finishes the look, perhaps, even giving it a look?!
Once I wore this adorable little black sundress and paired it with black flats. Cute, but, blah. Another time I wore the dress with purple shoes and everyone noticed the dress. Funny how changing up the accessories everyone seemed to notice that very cute dress.
So, I think the same rings true with furniture…only on a much larger scale. Accessories in a house can transform a room, let alone the home. Walking into a room you can be captured by the small things that make the big things beautiful. So, why not initiate some ummf into your rooms with decorative pillows by Squarefeathers.com. The collection is a sure thing to make your home get the adoring ahhs.
I had seen these amazing pillows that seem to look like canvas of art. The collection is haute couture for decorative pillows. The designer has meticulously captured elements of the outdoors and combined the design with vibrant colors or a muted palette-whichever theme he was going after. The sea theme has beautiful soothing blues while the tropical designs infuse vibrant colors, the wood series has bold patterns-each line is so different yet all meticulously handcrafted.
I received the package of pillows and was completely in awe over what I saw inside. The pillows not only look amazing, but, the feel of these down feather pieces of art is incredible. The thing I like about my sea coral pillow is that it is made of soft white luxurious fleece that feels like cashmere. It is so soft and the crisp blue sea design gives it an additional element of soothing luxury on my couch.
The pillows are pricey. Each one is handcut, hand-assembled and hand-sewn, so you pay for the individual production of the pillow. But, because most of my furniture is either revamped garage sale finds or hand me downs, nice pillows are the key to make my home either feel cheap or look chic. I like spending more on the small things because I get more bang for my buck. I can move the pillows around in rooms and change up my house continually with small decorative items like these gorgeous pillows that will make a fashionable statement.-Amber
Oh and my oversized distressed leather sofa that seem to go unnoticed (which is odd considering it takes up half the room) is now receiving praises…and I tribute that to my new decorative pillow from squarefeathers.com.

There is big news on the CPSIA front (for background information on the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act read this earlier Boutique Café article). A rally and congressional briefing, OVERKILL: HOW THE CONSUMER PRODUCT SAFETY IMPROVEMENT ACT IS DAMAGING AMERICAN BUSINESSES, will take place on April 1st. I look forward to seeing/hearing/meeting others and hope our legislators will be listening as well. See you at the rally!
Here is the press release for the event:
Implementation of the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA) is following a worst-case scenario for manufacturers, retailers and charities. Thanks to the flaws in this law, millions of perfectly safe products are in the process of being destroyed, costing U.S. businesses billions of dollars in the midst of one of the worst economic crises in U.S. history. Charitable organizations and thrift stores are being forced to pull inventory from their shelves at a time when American families need them more than ever. The supply of science supplies to schools is being curtailed. Youth model ATV and dirt bikes are no longer available creating a safety issue because more than 90% of injuries to kids on ATVs occur on large adult size models. Even libraries are at risk of legal liability for lending children’s books. All of these violations of common sense are being done in the name of “safety”.
From unrealistic compliance deadlines that made it impossible for industry or the Consumer Product Safety Commission to adequately prepare before the law went into effect, to the unprecedented decision to retroactively apply the new lead standards and phthalates ban to inventory already sitting in stores and warehouses, CPSIA is causing massive disruptions to industries across the board, particularly small and medium-sized businesses.
So far, Congress has ignored the calls of thousands of small businesses, charities, parents and teachers to fix the flaws in this legislation, refusing even to hold public hearings on the problem. That’s why business and charitable groups are organizing a fly in, rally and Congressional briefing on Capitol Hill to meet with Members of Congress, provide information and bring attention to the CPSIA crisis. Wide participation is anticipated in this unique event to call upon Congress to urgently fix the CPSIA.

Ever wonder what is behind the vast online Twitter movement? It seems like everyone is talking about it.
The Today Show did an interesting piece on:
- how to Twitter
- Twitter lingo
- celebrities who tweet
and more!
Today’s review is just in time for spring break. No, it’s not a list of the Top 10 Most Crowded Amusement Parks, though it does have to do with highly visited vacation spots. When you combine thousands of families and umpteen thousand kids with places like Disneyland, Sea World or the Mall of America (um, guess that’s my idea of a vacation and not my family’s…sorry), you often get a lost child or two. And when lost and most likely frightened, many of these children aren’t going to remember that designated meeting spot you all agreed on when you entered the happiest place on earth. So what’s a parent to do other than strap on one of those child-friendly harnesses?
Spot Me ID™ has come up with what I think is a fabulous solution because it is perfect for children of all ages, including my 11-year-old and 3-year-old. Spot Me ID has designed a line of identification products that believe it or not, your kids won’t mind wearing. The line consist of ID bracelets, ID lanyards and temporary tattoos all animated with the company’s mascot, Spot Me the safety dog. With themes ranging from amusement parks to sports to the zoo, Spot Me ID has come up with a fun way to help reunite lost parents with their children.
How do Spot Me ID products work? Simply write your name and cell phone number on any of the safety products, including the temporary waterproof tattoos, with the travel-size waterproof permanent marker and you’re good to go. And what child doesn’t love those temporary tattoos? Spot Me ID’s tattoos are non-toxic, FDA approved and last several days even when wet so you can safely go from Space Mountain to the Splash Zone day and and day out during your magical vacation!
We received our own sets of Spot Me ID bracelets, lanyards and tattoos. My kids went gaga over them when they arrived and wanted to put them on immediately. I should have let them; with the number of baths we take in this house it would have been a great test for the tattoos! I had hoped we would have an opportunity to use them (i.e. taken a really fun vacation somewhere other than McDonald’s Playland) but we didn’t go anywhere fun. We are taking a trip with the kids to California in August and will hit Marine World while there, so that will be the perfect place to try them out–I can’t wait!
Spot Me ID products aren’t just for amusement parks and zoos. You can also use them at sporting events, malls, airports, field trips, family gatherings and on cruise ships. (Yeah, like my kids are going on a cruise before Mom and Dad get to go!) The company has won numerous awards for its product and I’m not surprised. Anything that offers parents peace of mind when it comes to their children is an award winner for sure! Plus Spot Me ID products are a lot more affordable than implanting a microchip in my children’s bodies. Not that I’d do that of course…I’m just saying… –Emily
With the product name California Baby you immediately think baby line…right? Right.
It is. Designed specifically for babies this line has been created to eliminate any irritants that could cause rashes or allergies. It is a gentle, non-chemical formula that has received praises from Hollywood moms. But, even moms like Gwyneth have been known to use the products for herself. So what is with this California Baby craze?
Why does it seem to appear in countless magazines as the must-have product line? What is so great about it? Why all the buzz??
I’ll tell you because it is simply AMAZING. Really. Go online right now to check out all the incredible products they have that will change your world…and your babies!
I tried the Bubble Bath and the Shampoo & Bodywash.
First, lets talk about the Bubble Bath. The bottle comes with a bubble wand—love that addition to keep the little ones wanting more time in the suds. This bubble bath has virtually no scent, which is great for anyone who likes to lather up in lotion afterward. It is important to shake up the bottle to mix around the formula, so that you get plenty of bubbles. This natural bubble bath would be great for anyone suffering with eczema because it is so mild and light on the skin.
The Shampoo & Bodywash also has no extra dyes or additives to its formula. This natural formula is essentially scentless with high shine results.
California Baby has a lot of other products including sunscreen, massage oils, diaper care and spritzers—all made with the natural formula. So, now I know the buzz is cause this line is ideal for those that suffer from skin sensitivity or allergies. -Amber
Hello, Boutique Cafe fans and Daily Dish readers! Daria was nice enough to let me post some important (well, important to me!) information here in the Chat section of Boutique Cafe. Most of you know me as one of the contributing editors here on Boutique Cafe, but I also co-own georgie tees, a company that offers “freshly baked style for bellies & babies.” (Yes, great tagline!)
Anyway, the good news is my business partner and I both have a few new projects in the works. The bad news is in order to make these new endeavors happen, we will be moving on from georgie tees, selling the company we have built over the past three (almost four) years.
We are looking for a mom or moms who are interested in owning their own business and who would be a perfect fit for our company. We have spent over three years building our business and as much as we’d love to continue, both of us have new projects we are working on and entrepreneurial husbands who could use our help to grow their own businesses.
Even with all the multitasking we do, we can’t make time for everything in our busy schedules! We have built a strong foundation for georgie tees and are excited to see it grow under new ownership. If you or someone you know might be interested in georgie tees, you can email us at bizinfo[at]georgietees[dot]com for more information.
We appreciate everyone who is helping spread the word. We aren’t in a hurry; we’re all about making sure the new owners will be a great fit for georgie tees (i.e. we hope they have a good sense of humor!). Until the sale is final (and probably for a little while after) we will continue to pour our hearts and souls into our baby company…it’s what mompreneurs do! –Emily

If you’re new here then let me bring you up to speed: I have an addiction to jeans. I also have addictions to shoes and t-shirts, but jeans is probably top on the list. Oh, yes. Chocolate is in the mix too but that level of addiction changes related to stress and hormones. Anyway, it should come as no surprise that I jump at any chance to review a new denim label on the Daily Dish.
What makes today’s review super cool is I actually won these jeans after commenting on another site’s giveaway. I never win anything, so winning a pair of jeans was a dream come true! (I have simple dreams: world peace, an end to hunger and a great fitting pair of jeans..for free.) Now, that’s super cool for me but what makes it super cool for you? The “Sweet Dee” jeans I won from Alias Premium Denim ended up fitting like a high-priced pair of designer jeans yet the price is far from designer. In fact it is even less than your favorite pair of jeans from GAP! At only $40 I knew I had to share my Sweet Dee jeans with our Daily Dish readers. Okay, maybe not literally but figuratively for sure!
Here is the short and sweet of Alias Premium Denim (i.e. the story behind the Sweet Dee jeans):
We were tired of paying hundreds of dollars for premium denim. We loved the fit and style but didn’t love what it was doing to our bank account. We tried less expensive jeans, but just couldn’t find the right style and price combination. Since we couldn’t find it, we decided to create it! 18 months of design and development later and Alias Premium Denim was born, for all the other girls out there that want to look HOT without burning a hole in their jean pocket.
That’s me, that’s me! I want to look hot without breaking the bank! I received my Sweet Dee jeans, immediately ran into my room to try them on (I do that with pretty much every pair of jeans…self-control goes out the door with denim), and loved what I saw in the mirror–front and back! The pockets are super cute (a big plus for me) and the fabric and fit were great. They had a longer length, which is totally what my short-torso-long-leg frame needs, and the cut was super flattering. The only issue I had was a slight gap in the back of the waistband, but this is a common occurrence for me and my tailor knows me well. A size 28, which is what I received, fits a 4 to 6, so it’s not surprise there was a little “give” in the waistband. But I loved these jeans enough to spend a few extra dollars to take the waist in just a titch. When I spend upwards of $80+ dollars for a pair of jeans, I’d rather not tack on any extra tailoring fees. But with Alias Premium Denim and that $40 price tag, I can totally afford it!
Right now Alias Premium Denim only has one style, the Sweet Dee, (dark wash, low rise, bootcut). Fortunately the bootcut is a universally flattering fit and never goes out of style. They will be introducing their second style soon and you can enter to win a free pair as soon as they arrive by completing a super short (I’m talking like 4 questions) survey. If they’re anything like the Sweet Dee they’ll be fabulous!
Premium designer denim does NOT mean you’ll have to take out a second mortgage. Yes, you generally get what you pay for when it comes to jeans, but in the case of Alias Premium Denim, you get more than what you pay for. It’s important to support small business–and your jean addiction, and Alias Premium Denim makes it easy to do so in today’s economy. –Emily
I am a serious flip-flopper shopper. I usually buy something and the very next day I am wishing I purchased the other color. Sometimes (o.k…most of the time) I end up going back to the store to buy the other color. That’s right buying not exchanging- buying!
So, you can see I have a problem. I like fashion and I pay the price.
However, I won’t be paying much more…I just discovered Switchflops.
With these sandals I can change the look instantly by replacing the colorful straps. Essentially creating my very own shoe to coordinate with just about everything in my closet. Not to mention leaving so much more space in my closet as well. Now I won’t have several shoes stacked in every nook and cranny.
This unique concept is so easy to get what you want. First, you select your sole. They have classic 1″ flats, added lift wedge and a little kitten heel option for a more sophisticated look. Each style comes in an array of colors so that your sole can match your straps. Next is selecting the wide assortment of straps. Now this is where you have to practice some self-control! The strap designs are endless. Switchflops strap collection has a little bit for everyone. You will find nautical stripes, bright florals, safari prints, even patent leather straps.
I tried the 1 inchers and they were ideal for me. I like having a bit of padding but not too much stacking in the sole. Some flip-flops are really rigid and flat, which make it difficult to break in and hard on your arches, but, not with Switchflops. The cushion instantly conformed to my feet and there was not a bit of discomfort initially or by the end of the day.
Another area that can be a sore spot with flip-flops is the toe strap. I put my Switchflops to the test and flip-flopped my way around town the entire day and too my delight I was never bothered by the toe strap. This was great considering my spot in between the toes usually get irritated and red by end of the day.
For a mere $32 for the sole and $12 for additional straps now you can afford to flip flop. – Amber
If you are still toting around diapers and a wipes case sans cute-yet-functional changing tote then it’s time to change things up a bit. The single-pocket-style diapers and wipes case is fine but what do you do when you need a changing mat to cover those changing stations in the store bathroom? And toting around your entire diaper bag when all you really need is enough items for a quick on-the-go change gets really old…really quickly. The perfect solution? The new tactic changing purse from JJ Cole.
As soon as I received JJ Cole’s tactic changing purse in the super cute pink daisy pattern, I immediately removed my Fleurville ModPod from my diaper bag, stocked up the tactic changing purse with a couple diapers, wipes case, onesie and diaper cream and slipped it easily into its proper place. Don’t get me wrong, I love Fleurville’s ModPod but it did take up quite a bit of space in my diaper bag and it was hard to get to the wipes if I needed one for a runny-nose emergency. JJ Cole’s version was more compact and I had much easier access to those oft needed wipes. I included a photo to prove my point! (Yes, I pack a lot of snacks for both the kids and me!)
The tactic changing purse holds diapers, a wipes case and comes with a changing pad that has a slightly padded area for the head. It even includes a wallet organizer for necessities like credit cards, cell phone and even a lip gloss or two. The tactic’s handle is adjustable (I keep it as short as possible since it sits in my diaper bag) and can be attached to a stroller or even carried like a wristlet. It is made from easy-to-clean laminated canvas, another fabulous feature, and comes in four different fun patterns. Oh, and I forgot to mention it has a magnetic closure–a simple feature yet one I love. I can’t find a single thing not to like about the tactic changing purse. Even the price is a good one at just under $30.
Though the same ol’ thing isn’t always a bad thing, switching tactics can make for a refreshing–and space saving–change. I’m a firm believer in that statement now that I own JJ Cole’s tactic changing purse! –Emily
The past few months my skin has been BLAH. It is dry and cracked and when I try to make it glow…it looks oily. The winter months take a beating on me and I hate that it shows on my skin.
So, I tried sugar mama honey bar from glowology and gotta say…I now have a glow! Not too much of a fan of the bar (because I prefer bottles), but they do have a honey wash in a bottle that could be heavenly.
I don’t know if it is the natural ingredients or the skin-regenerating formulas but I like what I see and feel. This luxury line has a little bit of everything to take care of your skin. The honey bar I tried is a moisturizing bar soap that has vitamins whipped into it to balance our your skin. Sometimes when the natural companies go all organic on us the smell goes with it too. Not here. The smell of sweet honey stays with you throughout the day and the line is all natural– so if you suffer with sensitive skin you’ll be just fine.
If you have dull winter skin, you really should give Glowology a go. – Amber
The online influence of Digital Moms are in hot demand these days. In the second part of The Today Show’s series on Digital Moms, Ann Curry interviews Teri Walter Razorfish, and Wendy Piersall Founder and CEO of Sparkplugging.com. They also feature Melissa Garcia – Consumer Queen who saves money – snags coupons – promotes bargains – and educates other women how to do the same on her popular website.
“Moms want to hear from other moms. They don’t want to hear from a Corporate company. They want to hear from someone just like them.” – Melissa Garcia
The key to product success is knowing your audience, and with approx. 30,000,000 women online it’s essential to reach out to them through someone they trust. I’m sure many of us remember the backlash behind the Motrin ads on baby wearing. Moms spoke up online, and Motrin pulled the ad realizing that they had offended many of their target audience.
Moms are not only influencing other moms with their product reviews, but they are also influencing corporate America. Advertisers are now reaching out to these mom bloggers and site owners, providing free products for a recommendation on their sites. Wendy Piersall, gives her advice to moms who may be interested in providing a voice online, but also stresses the amount of work and time it takes before things payoff – it can take years. “It’s really rewarding” – she says.
For most, the opportunity to reach out online and connect with others is the biggest benefit of being a mom in the digital age. Social networks provide a chance for camaraderie and friendship.
We’d love to hear your thoughts on Digital Moms and Social Networking. How does this affect what you buy? Do you utilize social networks for friendship and support?
Do you remember those questions on tests that went something like “Puppy is to dog as _____ is to cat?” Today’s question is “Stretching is to yoga as skin care is to _____?” Unless you’re well versed in Ayurvedic skin care, you won’t have a clue. Let me fill you in: the answer is DoshaCare. DoshaCare is customized Ayurvedic skin care, but it is more than just skin care; it is a philosophy for life.
DoshaCare combines the knowledge from the Ayurvedic tradition of India with the best of western science to for a lifestyle approach that focuses on “authentic radiance.” Their skin care line helps radiate your inner beauty and actually evolves with you. With a series of questions under “Ayurveda & Dosha Types” you can find out your primary and secondary Dosha (the page also goes into more detail about Ayurveda and Dosha) and then from there you can tailor your skin care to match. As your skin changes throughout the year (and we all know it does) you can change your regimen along with it.
I answered those questions and found out I was pretty much Pitta all the way, so DoshaCare sent me their Pitta Cleansing Bath to review. Designed to protect and soothe normal and sensitive skin, this cleanser is 98% botanical and organic. It contains turmeric for its antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, hyperpigmentation correction and softening properties; neem to promote skin elasticity; and aloe vera for hydration and soothing. It was a good thing the information sheet I received with it had directions, for I could not find any on the box or bottle. I know, I know–lather, rinse and hopefully not repeat but I am one of those that thrive on written instructions. But I did lather and rinse…and if I was wearing makeup, I had to repeat. Plus, I’ve kind of gotten accustomed to “less is more” with most cleansers I’ve reviewed, and this one took a full pump and then a second full pump to get my face completely makeup free.
It did leave my skin feeling soft and hydrated, though not as hydrated as I would’ve liked. Though the scent was rather strong (albeit natural), I found it very earthy and somewhat relaxing. My husband walked in once while I was using it and even noticed the scent-not in a bad way, but how often is a cleanser that strong? I would have loved to have tried out the full line to see if I felt more “balanced” and if I felt it really were tailored to me and my primary Dosha.
As much as I should embrace the DoshaCare approach to life I’m not sure I’m in a place to do so just yet. (That statement probably shows I definitely should take the time to become more centered!) The Pitta Cleanser (4.2 fl oz) costs $34–a bit on the high end if you’re using twice as much as the next cleanser. But it is customized skin care, and I can’t say that Avon or Oil of Olay or any other skin care lines have ever asked me how well I sleep, what my appetite is like or how I react to stress. There just might be something to this DoshaCare thing! –Emily

This isn’t our interview, but we felt this was so timely and important that we would share it on Boutique Cafe. Digital Moms Laura Fortner – CafeMom and Heather Armstrong Dooce joined Meredith Vera on The Today Show to discuss motherhood 2.0, and how approx. 30,000,000 women are now online.
Everything from raising a baby & connecting for support, to info seekers, groupsters, connectors – the reasons for being online go on and on. Boutique Cafe would like to know, why are you online? What does motherhood 2.0 give you? How does it enhance your parenting experience, and how does it take away from it? We’re excited to read your comments.
Bliss has landed in my studio in the form of a hot pink TV, can it be any more girly it matches my luggage?! Feast your eyes upon the 19-inch FAVI Pink 720p LCD HDTV DVD/Card Reader/USB Combo from FAVI Entertainment. This awesome television may look prim and proper, but even my husband was impressed to discover that it’s full of functionality. It’s truly like the Swiss Army Knife of media systems. Not only can you watch Grey’s Anatomy on Thursday night, but you can use this multi-use technology for so much more! Use as a desktop computer monitor, toss in your fave new DVD to watch (the DVD drive is built right in), drop in your camera card to view pictures as your own digital photo frame – it’s all jam packed into this sweet little unit from FAVI.
I first heard about FAVI Entertainment when I saw it featured on an episode of “The View” and how FAVI was supporting the Susan G Komen Foundation for Breast Cancer research. I was impressed with what I saw that day and contacted the company to find out more. I can honestly say that once I saw the product in person, that’s where my real excitement began. The HD picture quality is excellent, the unit is light weight and slim to suit your kitchen counter, desktop or bedroom. I also was impressed with the price point considering the quality of picture and the many uses and input jacks it provides, at $399 it’s a fantastic buy.
Plus it’s Pink, and we could all use a touch of that! – Daria
Leslie Leyland Fields dispels this and numerous other parenting myths in her new book, Parenting Is Your Highest Calling and Eight Other Myths That Trap Us in Worry and Guilt. I don’t usually read parenting books, though I did read The Five Love Languages of Children and was thoroughly enlightened–definitely one of my favorite non-fiction books. And I did enjoy Mother Nurture, which I reviewed back in July. But I was intrigued by the title since many moms like myself are often bombarded with guilt and worry when it comes to raising our children.
Now, before I received the book I was told it would have some scriptural references but the topic would be of interest to parents and families of all walks of faith. I am totally okay with that; I’m not one to shy away from a book that might reference other beliefs as long as it’s not a negative book if that makes sense. (I really enjoyed the “pray” section of Eat, Pray, Love and I’m definitely no yogi!) That being said I found Parenting Is Your Highest Calling to be a bit much for me. It didn’t have just a few scriptural or faith-related references; it was chock full of them. It was a bit heavier reading than I had anticipated (e.g. the myth titled “You represent Jesus to your children”). I just didn’t see myself taking the time to fill out the “Reflection and Discussion” sections at the end of every chapter, but then again, perhaps I’d be a better mother if I did. Who knows?
On the other hand, this book did make a great effort dispelling nine myths of parenting including “Having children makes you happy;” “Good parenting leads to happy children;” and my favorite, “You will always feel unconditional love for your children.” Now THAT one I know is a myth after birthing four very different children! I really liked this excerpt on page 23 from the section “Why do we have children at all?”:
Having children today defies personal economics. Web sites coolly calculate the cost of raising a child at anywhere between $150,000 and $1 million each. Children simply cost too much–and not just in dollar figures. They undo us. They shows us how much and how little we’re made of. It often seems that they come only to break our hearts. And we let them. We invite it all. We admit perfect strangers through our doors and decide to love them wildly, without condition, for as long as we live.
So why do we have children? The answer is simple: to learn to love. “At the heart of our desire to have children, then even beyond our hopes for happiness, is the longing to love.” That is probably my favorite part from the entire book. It’s such a simple yet beautiful concept…and it rings true.
From my favorite myth (”You will always feel unconditional love for your children”) Fields shares with us this insight:
Though we may not always feel a deep, unconditional love for our children, that does not mean we love them any less. When our children disobey, then they cause harm to another, when they choose attitudes and actions that cut against the holiness God desires, we will have an emotional response–if we truly love them. Loving them means that we desire their highest good. … We may feel anger, as God does. We may feel hurt, as God does. We may feel disgust, as God does. Love not only allows these feelings; it requires them.
Leslie is the mother of six, and as she points out in Parenting Is Your Highest Calling, imperfect like the rest of us. Hearing about some of her challenges and stories from other women makes it easier to dispel those nine myths and feel a little less guilty when your parenting isn’t up to par. Perhaps if I didn’t have some wonderful girlfriends who are figuring out this motherhood thing with me–and making me feel less guilty–I’d read more parenting books! –Emily
P.S. If you enjoy a good parenting book but aren’t sure how much religion you’d like with your reading, check out the book from the library first to make sure it’s right for you.)

Last September I reviewed LeapFrog’s uber popular (and for good reason) Tag reader. This little handheld reading wonder is still a big hit with all our kids, whether 18 months or 11 years, and we are continually adding books to the collection. Hint: it’s the gift that keeps on giving–and gives Grandma and Grandpa a great idea for birthdays!
Did you know March is National Reading Month? To be honest, I had no clue until I received an email from LeapFrog telling me about its latest effort “to bring attention to literacy and encourage families to make time to read together.” As if introducing the Tag reader to the world wasn’t enough, LeapFrog has launched its 1 Million Reading Hours campaign in conjunction with the NEA’s National Reading Month.
What is the idea behind the 1 Million Reading Hours campaign? By pledging to set aside at least 10 minutes a day, parents can contribute to the national goal of 1 million reading hours. But it’s not just about achieving a goal. When parents pledge to spend more time reading together with their children they reinforce the importance of shared reading time in their own family. So how does the program–and the giveaway–work? Here are the details:
Visit the 1 Million Reading Pledge page on LeapFrog’s site and enter the number of minutes you pledge to read per day. That’s pretty much it! All participants will receive special rewards and offers from LeapFrog–if they give you one on the Tag reader, use it! Now for the giveaway…and this is the super fabulous part. (Okay, spending quality time reading with your child is the “real” benefit, but let’s be honest…a giveaway doesn’t hurt!)
LeapFrog is giving one lucky Daily Dish reader:
One Tag reader plus 5 books for personal use AND
One expanded-memory LeapFrog School Tag reader plus 10 books to donate to their local library
To enter the giveaway you will need to visit the 1 Million Reading Pledge page and enter your pledge. (Yes, I mentioned this before but as we all know, some people don’t catch it the first time.) Then return to this post and leave a comment telling us how much time you pledged in LeapFrog’s 1 Million Reading Hours. On April 1st we will draw the winner from the comments posted below. (Please include a valid email address for our drawing.)
P.S. We’re not going to check LeapFrog’s records to see who really visited the site and made a pledge; we’re all about the honor system here at Boutique Cafe. Just know you’ll feel really guilty if you didn’t pledge and end up winning…
* Congratulations to Johannah B., the winner of the Tag Reader giveaway! Thank you to everyone who took the time to read the review and add a comment. Keep reading the Daily Dish for your chance to participate in more giveaways!
…but in this case, it’s the kind of complex you–and your skin–needs. Alba’s line of Advanced skin care products, which includes cleaners, toners, scrubs, masks and moisturizers, is formulated with their unique Marine Complex. This nutrient-rich complex has soothing and nourishing properties, helping enhance your skin’s “natural purity.” It also softens, detoxifies, heals and moisturizes. With that kind of a resume, I’d hire the entire line! Unfortunately I was only able to test the Advanced Sea Mineral Cleansing Gel.
This cleanser is a gently foaming (i.e. very few bubbles) gel that “lifts away impurities for glowing, healthy skin by delivering a synergistic blend of mineral-rich sea algae and antioxidant-rich green tea designed to combat the impact of harsh environmental factors.” It contains aloe and the aforementioned Marine Complex so it should sooth, hydrate, nourish, detoxify, firm and stimulate cell regeneration. Whew! It contains no sodium lauryl/laureth sulfate or synthetic colors and is made with 100% vegetarian ingredients. Okay, so does it work?
Well, yes and no. First of all I must say the Advanced Sea Mineral Cleansing Gel had a fairly pleasant smell if a bit on the masculine side. (Of course, I used to smell my boyfriend’s jacket all the time so I kind of like that sort of thing.) It did a great job cleansing, though if I had especially heavy mascara or liner it took a second washing to completely cleanse the eye area. It didn’t cause me to break out at all, which is one of my tests for a new skin care product.
On the “no” side, after I had cleansed and patted dry, my face felt a bit on the dry/tight side, and I don’t like that feeling at all. Compared to my new favorite CellCeuticals cleanser, which leaves my skin feeling like it’s already been moisturized, the Alba Advanced Sea Mineral Cleanser felt like it had sucked whatever hydration I had right out of my skin. Not a good things as far as I’m concerned. But once I moisturized, my skin felt just fine and didn’t seem overly dry or noticeably drier overall. And the price is right at only $9–much easier on the budget!
My husband and I also tested Alba’s Aloe Mint Moisturizing Foam Shave, and this I loved! My husband’s comment? “It worked just fine.” Hey, if it’s not a super cool stroller or tech gadget, he doesn’t have much to say about a product. But I do. This shaving foam uses organic botanicals and Vitamin E to provide a smooth, clean and soothing shave. The foam actually helps soften hair. The Aloe Mint “flavor” uses an organic blend of aloe vera, green tea and calendula, so you have cooling peppermint (great during and after shaving) and antioxidant-rich green tea to refresh the skin. The aloe actually helps with skin renewal, so you’re covered post shave as well.
The bottle says “less is more” so I tested it out using only one pump per leg. Granted, I don’t shave the entire leg in winter, but one pump did cover from ankle to mid thigh. Hard to believe but it’s totally true! My real test was when I shaved an area I haven’t shaved since the pools closed after Labor Day weekend. (If that’s TMI, sorry!) I just had to see if I’d have the typical razor burn and/or ingrown hairs. This would be the real test…and Alba’s Aloe Mint Moisturizing Foam Shave passed with flying colors! Of course I wasn’t hopping in and out of swim suits but still, I am painful-little-red-bumps free and loving it!
** Giveaway! Alba is giving away a gift set to one lucky Daily Dish reader! Please visit Alba’s site and leave a comment telling us what Alba product(s) you’d like to try. Include a valid email address for our drawing. We’ll draw the winner from the comments and contact her via email. Deadline: March 10, 2009 (midnight). The winner will have 24 hours to claim her prize or a new winner will be chosen.
