Lamas Beauty brings you the best of nature and science

July 28th, 2008

Lamas BeautyLamas Beauty is a line of earth-friendly beauty products created using certified organic botanicals, herbs and vitamins. They are all vegan and free of parabens, sodium lauryl, laureth sulphates, DEA and TEA and the company never uses animal-derived ingredients or tests their products on animals. With an impressive resume like that I felt Lamas Beauty needed no other introduction.

I was sent the Soy Hydrating Shampoo and Soy Balancing Conditioner, Pumpkin Spice Polish and Lash Masque. Sadly I was not able to test the shampoo and conditioner but I have given the Pumpkin Spice Polish and Lash Masque thorough testing and these products are as impressive as the list of harmful ingredients they don’t include!

Lamas BeautyLet’s start with the 3-in-1 Instant Facial you’ll find in the Pumpkin Spice Polish. This is by far one of my favorite exfoliating scrubs. The polish includes pumpkin enzymes, natural fruit and nut enzymes to dissolve dead skin cells and pore-clogging debris; apricot grains and micro-spheres to gently removed dead skin cells and polish the skin’s surface; pumpkin oil, soy protein, aloe vera and Vitamin E to leave skin hydrated and protected; coconut oil to dissolve makeup, excess oil and pollutants while leaving the skin’s natural pH intact. All of these fab ingredients make for one effective yet totally yummy facial scrub. (I had to remind myself not to lick my fingers while massaging it onto my face, it smelled that good!)

Once I had lathered, massaged and rinsed, my skin was left smooth, soft and yes, polished. I even waited a bit before putting on my daily moisturizer to see if my skin would feel dry as it usually does after an exfoliating scrub, but though it felt a bit tight it never felt dry, and it kept its polished look for a lot longer than it should on a Monday morning. Lamas Beauty’s Pumpkin Spice Polish definitely lives up to its “instant facial” claim. (Note: The directions say to pour a small amount into palm, work into a lather and massage over entire face. I found you won’t get a lather without some water, so moisten your face first and add a touch of water to the product once you pour it into your palm. You’ll find it works much better that way!)

Lamas BeautyNow for the Lash Masque, a product I can no longer live without. Lamas Beauty’s Lash Masque is a natural lash builder and conditioning treatment that includes panthenol to volumize and repair damaged lashes; Vitamin A Pamitate to improve moisture and shine; chicory and walnut to naturally darken lashes; biotin to improve lash growth and thickness; and oat protein to strengthen and smooth. You get all of those wonderful, natural benefits in a .22-oz tube of lash-strengthening, lash-darkening, lash-moisturizing product.

I’m a big mascara lover and faithful L’Oreal Voluminous user, and though I still use Voluminous on my top lashes (the Lash Masque didn’t have quite the same power to lengthen and thicken, probably because it doesn’t have all the crappy ingredients my Voluminous does…sigh) I have become addicted to using the Lash Masque on my bottom lashes. It darkens and thickens just enough to make my eyes “pop” but not enough to give me those dreaded Tammy-Faye-like spider legs below my eyes. For those of you who prefer a more natural look you will love the definition Lash Masque provides. No clumpy, stiff lashes with this product! You can even use it overnight and as a base for your current mascara.

By now you know I’m all about combining the best nature and science have to offer because it means we get to enjoy earth-friendly, skin-friendly products like my new faves from Lamas Beauty. Whether you’re strengthening your lashes or polishing your skin, be sure and do it naturally. –Emily
