It’s all (terrain) or nothing!

January 10th, 2008

I’ve got a fabulous product to review on our last day of “let’s get in shape” week, and if you buy it in Midnight Navy it will even color coordinate with your ToughGirl skirt! The new 2008 Sport Series ATX All Terrain jogging stroller from Tike Tech will not only look good with your new workout gear but make you look good in your new workout gear.

Tike TechI was able to check out the new ATX Single in Nordic Red. Though it hasn’t hit the pavement yet (yes, I’m just a big wimp when it comes to 20-degree weather and ice on the road), it has made a few laps around the house. The first thing I noticed–and loved–was how much lighter this aluminum stroller felt compared to past ones I’ve reviewed. It’s probably just a pound or two difference, but when you’re talking strollers (or even my personal weight) every pound matters. But the relatively lightweight frame didn’t mean this baby was short on durability and cool features, the first cool feature being how little assembly it required. The instruction booklet was only a couple pages and even I had no problem putting the stroller together. (The only problem came when my two-year-old wanted to help…)

TikeTechAfter quickly popping on the three wheels and engaging the breaks the ATX was ready to “glide effortlessly over all types of terrain,” even if the terrain included carpet and tile. The 16-inch wheels allowed the ATX to ride smoothly over the occasional slipper, toy, and cordless telephone. The basket was a generous size (very important) as was the canopy, which even comes with side storage pockets. How cool is that! The adjustable, contoured padded seat reclines and is suitable from 6 weeks on (just in time for post-pregnancy workouts) and has seat bottom support (we could all use that) and back of seat support. You’ve got a zipper pocket on seat back with an additional mesh pocket, and the rear seat cover is removable and stain resistant. Impressed? I thought so!

The ATX also includes a 5-point harness (took a little time to get this adjusted just right), sturdy foot plate, rear parking brake, and tether strap. The ergonomic handle has various positions but I did find it a bit hard to adjust. After successfully moving it up a notch or two I still needed it a bit higher but just couldnt’ get it to budge. When I asked my husband to help he said, “Look, you just push in these buttons and lift it up…(1st attempt)…you just push in these buttons…(2nd attempt)…you just…” Fortunately the third attempt was a charm. Not so easy, was it buddy? I do wish it had a swivel feature for the front wheel, but you can find this feature on Tike Tech’s Trax 360.

Tike TechTo top off all these features is its newest feature, a car seat adapter for infant seats. I don’t know of too many jogging strollers that can say that. Of course it means you now have no excuse to get out and get moving! Tike Tech’s Sport Series ATX all terrain comes in five colors: Nordic Red, Pacific Blue, Midnight Navy, Canyon Orange, and Lime Green. (Can’t say that about most joggers either!) By the way, I also received the Cozy Padded Seat insert so now I really have no excuse for bundling us both up and getting some fresh, although frigid, fresh air. Get the ATX and get out and get moving! –Emily
