Lately my now two-year-old is truly acting like a two-year-old, especially when it comes to sitting down to eat dinner with the family. He either won’t eat at all and goes off to play or insists on sitting on his big sister’s favorite barstool instead of his “special” chair. What’s a mom to do? Usually I’m too exhausted to fight the dinnertime scene so he gets his way, but now that I have something truly enticing (besides Mom’s meatloaf) for mealtime he needs no encouraging (aka bribing) at all!

Let’s face it, changing diapers is not the most glamorous or exciting job in the world. That’s why I’m so happy to have discovered the Ubi changing table. The Ubi to me, is like the swiss army knife of change tables due to it’s many handy features!

I was sent the Deluxe Ubi Table with natural wood base and “lime coco beach” cover. This swanky model also sports the most awesome diaper dispenser right where you need it, under the baby. The diapers push down into a spring loaded system that keeps several diaper right within reach. I loved that aspect to the table, it just makes so much sense that you shouldn’t have to stretch and reach to find a diaper - it should be right at your fingertips whenever you need it. The thing I loved most about the Ubi is the fastener strips that quickly and easily hold the diaper in place. It was so simple to change diapers with the fastener strips, just pull up a diaper from the dispenser and stretch the tabs up to attach on the strip. Many of you are familiar with baby star and their line of bibs, blankets, and burps (burp cloths). Known for being super soft and super stylish, baby star is devoted to “creating high-quality baby products for the design-savvy parent and the texture-loving child.” I’d like to add that they’re perfect for the texture-loving parent as well because I can’t get enough of their new star swaddler blanket.

The soft waffle material makes it perfect for swaddling and the lightweight fabric keeps baby comfortable yet warm. The decorative star adds a sweet touch to this already sweet blanket. I’m telling you, if it had been just a bit bigger I would have wrapped myself up in it, disappeared into my room (door locked of course), and slept for hours.

“I’ve always had a creative outlet and it just simply fulfills me. Being creative is in my blood, I guess! My mom upholstered furniture for a living and my dad builds houses and does woodwork….both self employed DIYers. As long as I can remember I was sewing mom’s upholstery fabric scraps into tiny animals…stuffing them with her leftover foam bits. And gluing whatever wood scraps and sawdust I found under my dad’s saws into whatever my imagination thought up. I’m thankful that they never minded my messes and crazy collages. In college, everyone knew to find me in the art building where my professors granted me my own studio space. That led me to a BFA and a career in graphic design. I can’t be the only one with a toddler who’d rather be outside of his stroller rather than restrained in a five-point harness. And when you’ve got a stand-up tandem stroller that isn’t that comfortable for the aforementioned toddler it turns a leisurely stroll around the block into a painful experience for both mom and toddler. If you’re feeling similar pain then I’ve got the cure. It’s called the Swiss Strolli Rider from Happy Stroller–buy one, hook it up, and be pain free in the morning!

The night we received the Swiss Strolli Rider I had my husband hook it up to our Graco stroller. With a good 9 or 10 sizing options, from round to square, we found the perfect fit in no time. And with a seat that has two height positions and footrests and handlebars that secure wherever is most comfortable we had it ready to go for George by the time he woke up in the morning. If you’re looking for a handbag that is truly unique and made from truly luxurious fabric then you totally need to check out the line of handsewn handbags from MadieDeluxe. MadieDeluxe offers a collection of one-of-a-kind and limited edition handbags, totes, clutches, wristlets, and messenger bags embellished with jewel-like touches and embroidery.

I received the Royal Stewart Plaid messenger bag from the Scottish Plaid Fall/Holiday 2007 collection. This beautiful messenger bag (I love red and I love plaid!) was not only a stylish alternative to the typical messenger bag but with its nylon lining worked wonderfully as a diaper bag. The back pocket was large enough to hold a laptop or in my case a changing pad and diapers. PlusI learned the nylon MadieDeluxe uses is not only water resistant but rot and mildew resistant as well. I liked how easy the heart buckle on the strap let you adjust the length, though I did tie off the end to keep it from slipping a bit after being adjusted. (Guess it depends on how many things you carry–I tend to pack everything including the kitchen sink!) The added cosmetic bag was perfect for my lip glosses (yes, way more than one) and other cosmetic items including the all important baby fingernail clippers.

I absolutely love the Le Havre silk buckle short handbag and the Chanda Leer black shopper tote. Both designs show off the skilled, handcrafted detailing and vintage touches that adorn each bag. MadieDeluxe combines “retro styling with a modern flare to insure that each bag makes a personal statement like no other,” and I have to agree. Plus MadieDeluxe gives a portion of its sales to select causes and non-profit organizations. Our family has recently gone HD, that’s right High Definition abounds with the new Insignia 37″ HDTV. We received the signature brand television from Best Buy to test out, featuring an gorgeous LCD flat panel screen. First I must say that this tv is surprisingly affordable considering all it’s features, bells and whistles. Best Buy’s current power price is $749.99 which is incredible value and bang for your buck, and comes with universal remote and stand - that’s right, the whole kit and kaboodle.

Insignia is Best Buy’s in-store brand, so honestly I wasn’t sure what to expect as far as quality goes. I was stunned to see gorgeous color and definition before my eyes, the picture quality was top notch in my opinion. With a 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio, it delivers a cinema-style entertainment experience. The sound is also a sweet surprise, with two bottom speakers delivering rich sound. We have snuggled up as a family to enjoy several movies and have been thrilled with the experience, “The Princess Bride” never looked so good! Read the rest of this entry »

I love Autumn, the crunch of leaves under foot. The fresh air, the color, and the lead up to the holiday season all make me feel alive and renewed again. Fall is also one of my favorite times to shop, I just adore fall fashion and especially shoes. That’s where one of my new vices comes in, the Vincent Shoes Fall Line for children. If I’m not drooling over a new pair of shoes for myself, I’m certainly thinking about outfitting my kiddos tender toes and their fast favorite in footwear has become Vincent shoes.

We’ve reviewed Vincent Shoes several times on the Daily Dish, and that’s because they are really exceptional style, quality and pricing all rolled into one magnificent company. Well, all that plus they keep releasing the coolest styles over and over again, my children are like walking billboards for Vincent shoes the three youngest romping all over the park (or school hallways). No matter how crazy their wardrobe choices get, I can bank on their shoes looking totally chic and supporting their young feet.

If you want a pleasant distraction from the daily grind, I highly recommend some retail therapy cruising the Vincent Shoes website. Fortunately for us all I’m not reviewing the famous Vanilla Ice song, but if you feel the need to move to the beat while reading this review you can find the video on YouTube. Now back to the ice I’m talking about, which comes courtesy of Iced Couture, a line of simply fabulous clothing and accessories adorned with Swarovski crystals.

After several amazing years together, our Queen of Chat Megan has decided the time has come to step down from her role at Boutique Cafe. Megan is not only a dear friend, but has been and continues to be BC’s greatest cheerleader. It’s impossible to even put into words the thanks and gratitude that I have personally for Megan, she’s been my right-hand gal and so this decision is a bitter-sweet one for me, and for many of you that enjoy her Finds and News on our show.

Everything that Megan touches turns to gold and is a huge success, she gives 110% to anything she does and is the hardest worker I’ve ever met. She is also ultra creative, a stellar planner, and a true friend. Please join me in honoring Megan for the years of work she has put in for the benefit of our Boutique Cafe listeners.
