Are you prepared?

June 26th, 2007

The Ready ProjectWhen we talk about Daily Dish must-haves we often talk about the latest diaper bags, baby apparel, jewelry, and fabulous gifts. Today’s must-have may not be featured in the latest fashion mags but it is still a must-have for Daily Dish readers.

With natural disasters happening left and right it’s more important than ever to be prepared. Sure, you’ve got your flashlights, candles, and evacuation plan, but do you have an easy, affordable, and non-perishable way to feed your family? The Ready Project wants to help you do just that. The company’s missions is to “leave no home unprepared” and “provide superior emergency products at affordable prices.”

By offering affordable, long lasting gourmet food storage starting at under $25 a month, The Ready Project does just that. Their Ready Food Supply buckets are shipped to your home monthly and include easy-to-cook meals for your family. What I love about their food supply is the easy-to-store buckets, which make them perfect for storing under beds and in cupboards. But does the food taste good?

I received a sample of The Ready Project’s Series II, which included 18 servings of pasta with Alfredo sauce, 30 servings of chocolate whey milk substitute, and 15 servings of hearty potato soup. My dad, who was in town for this review and who is a food storage buff, couldn’t wait to bust the bucket open. He mixed up some of the chocolate whey milk and we all got a taste. Yes, it would have tasted better chilled but it was still very chocolaty and very drinkable. It’s definitely a tastier option than the cans of powdered milk I have lining my cold storage shelves!

I wanted to test out the potato soup this evening but due to scheduling conflicts (husband working late, kids still at the pool), the soup didn’t make it to the dinner table. But considering a powdered milk substitute is most likely the best test for taste, I’m more than sure the soup and pasta would have been a hit with the family. Along with chocolate whey milk, potato soup, and Alfredo, The Ready Project offers a variety of soups, stews, pastas, oatmeal, and breakfast drinks.

And guess what? The company offers “tasting parties,” so you can sample their food storage selections before making an investment. Now that’s cool! The Ready Project offers lots of ways to stay prepared, including auto-delivery and an affiliate program rewarding members for referrals. One more really cool thing””the company donates a percentage of all company sales to humanitarian aid to help combat hunger and disasters throughout the world? Another great reason to make sure you and your family are prepared for anything (including picky eaters). ““Emily

Emily, I have to tell you I’m really jazzed about this review. I think it’s so important to be prepared for emergencies and I’m going to be looking into what they offer more closely. I love that they offer monthly plans to stock your storage room. VERY COOL! Thanks for this review, I was just thinking about this yesterday and you put up a review on this topic. Awesome.
