Go for the beautifully handcrafted this Father’s Day

May 30th, 2007

RusticoStill trying to figure out what to give Dad for Father’s Day? Look no further as I’m going to introduce you to Rustico, a local Utah company offering a beautiful and unique gift perfect for June 17th!

RusticoIsaac Childs started making leather-bound journals back in college simply because he “liked to write.” He wanted a book with a unique personality and classic look to hold ideas and experiences. Childs took techniques learned in bookbinding courses and then customized them until he had the perfect journal. The pages in most of Rustico’s sketchbooks, journals, and photo albums are hand torn. The paper is acid free yet has the unique texture of old fashioned paper presses. The leather covers are cut from top-grain hides and bound by hand to the paper with a binding style used for centuries.

RusticoI received a sample of the Travelers Journal“”beautifully engraved with my name””and the Golf Log. I have opened and reopened my Travelers Journal over and over again just to look at and touch the beautiful pages. I haven’t yet decided what this journal will contain but I know it’s going to be deep and thought-provoking. Even if it’s not filled with deep thoughts at least people will think it is just because of the quality and craftsmanship.

Fashion Show - Iza Bella

May 30th, 2007

Iza BellaThis week we indulge in the beautiful fashions from Lisa of Iza Bella. Lisa’s designs are rich in scrumptious detailing and personality. When asked about her love of design Lisa shares:

“I believe my love for design started at an early age. I remember watching both my grandmother (who taught me the basics) and my great grandmother sew. At different points in my life I aspired to have a creative job of some sorts. In high school, I wanted to be a fashion designer for women and in my early 20’s I wanted to be a interior designer. It wasn’t until I became pregnant with my daughter that I found my true calling. I talked my husband into buying me a sewing machine for our anniversary and I started sewing little sets for my daughter before she was even born.
I get my inspiration from everything (my children, trends, fabric, color, etc.) but when the ideas hit me it’s usually in the shower. There have been times when I had to jump out and sketch something before I lost it. That is after all the only true place that a mom can be alone with her thoughts….well, most of the time.” Lisa

Shop Iza Bella on her Website, and eBay Auctions. You can learn more about eBay Me Page and her Blog. And if that isn’t enough, you can also frequent her Graphic Design site.**Please allow time for the show to load. Fashion Shows are in Quicktime format, a free download here.

How does your garden grow?

May 28th, 2007

Potting Shed CreationsIf you’re me it just plain doesn’t. But I can no longer use the excuse of a lame backyard layout for not having tomatoes fresh off the vine. Thanks to Potting Shed Creations, I can have not only fresh tomatoes but a variety of herbs and flowers as well””and without even breaking a sweat!

Potting Shed CreationsI read about Potting Shed Creations’ Garden-in-a-Pail in a recent issue of Real Simple and had to try it out for myself. I was sent two of their more popular Garden-in-a-Pails, the Lavender Mini-Garden-in-a-Pail and the Mixed Herb Garden-in-a-Pail. The galvanized buckets arrive with everything you need to grow your very own flowers or herbs right in the pail. The large size comes complete with garden gloves and the mini comes with a small wooden stake and pencil to label your seeds. I only had a chance to start my lavender pail before this review, but I’m already anxious to get going on my mixed herb garden. With easy-to-follow instructions (even for us non-gardeners) it took me seven minutes from start to finish to turn that galvanized bucket into a mini greenhouse for those lavender seeds. Any day now my girls and I should see a few seedlings popping up””we can’t wait!

Potting Shed CreationsI think what I’m even more excited about are all the other products Potting Shed Creations offers. From hanging baskets to “sentiment sprinkles“ to gardens-in-a-bag (yellow cherry tomatoes or alpine strawberries, anyone), the site is full of gardening options galore. And if you are lucky enough to have the space outdoors, Potting Shed Creations offers products for more serious gardeners as well. Green thumb or not, with Potting Shed Creations your garden will most certainly grow! ““Emily

necessity, the mother of invention

May 24th, 2007

bo2nThey say necessity is the mother of invention, and boy, am I glad diaper bags are a necessity! The latest “inventions” in this area are chic, stylish, and functional, and the bo2njour tote from born out of necessity is no exception.

Yes, I have reviewed other diaper bags in the past and have been impressed time and time again, but this bag definitely has the “wow” factor written all over it””and inside of it as well. When I unwrapped the bo2njour small tote in ocean blue & chocolate, I simply held it up and turned at around and drooled. The leather exterior (100% premium calfskin) begged to be touched and the distressed nickel metal hardware added more than just style, it added class. But born out of necessity’s site says, “Sure you look good on the outside, but it’s what’s inside that counts.” So is the inside of a bo2njour tote as impressive as the outside? Yes, it is.

bo2nThe inside of this sumptuous bag is made with a water-resistant nylon pack cloth with a waterproof aluminum mylar pocket designed to carry cold or hot items (all you need is a freezer or hot pack). Okay, I believe this is the first bag I’ve reviewed with this “necessity” included as a feature and it’s about time! The interior also boasts leather trim, an easily accessible key ring, and a cell phone pocket. All this wrapped up in a smart, sophisticated, and yes, I’m going to say it, sexy, diaper bag. Yes, my bo2n bag went from want to need in record time, and I’m seeing a need for the large tote in ocean blue & tangerine in the near future… ““Emily

Baby Dagny - Pacify Me

May 23rd, 2007

Baby DagnyDo you have a baby that needs soothing? It’s tough to find the right soother for your child, I know that my son went through several prototypes before we found the answer. But boil those soothers no longer searching for the Right one. Baby Dagny has the product that all the rage at baby showers and births around the country. It’s called the The WubbaNub pacifier sold exclusively on Baby Dagny.

The pacifier is unlike any other on the market. What sets it apart is the soft and cuddly toy which is attached to the soother. The toy encourages your little guy to grasp on and keep the soother in their mouth longer, giving you a few moments of peaceful bliss. The soother itself is great quality and not rough and bumpy like some other less desirable pacifiers out there. They held up to our little tester and passed the baby test in our family. Cat, Frog, Duck and many more - there’s a cute plush friend for the baby in your family.Baby Dagny

Baby Dagny is a site full of exceptional gifts for baby showers and gift giving, not only that but their packaging is extraordinary. Owner Andrea McGinty was inspired when she set out to develop Baby Dagny. “While Andrea was pregnant with her daughter Dagny she realized a niche in the market that had not been filled: a retailer of unique, stylish and high-quality baby products and gifts. Andrea applied her entrepreneurial skills and founded Baby Dagny, the premier retailer of just cool baby stuff!”. Check out Baby Dagny for some truly unique gifts - Daria

The Genius Butler Bag

May 22nd, 2007

How many of you have a Butler? Until recently I was in the “not me” category, but thanks to The Butler Bag I’m now happily in the “yes” category and lovin’ having a Butler of my own! This type of butler won’t answer your door but it does one better, it actually organizes your life. And by life I mean the inside of your purse! I don’t know about you, but my purse is a virtual dumping zone and collect-all for everything under the sun. I can rarely find what I need and I’m ashamed to say that occassionally I’ve had to dump my purse out on the store counter to find my credit card or lipgloss. Thank heavens for Jen Groover, the brilliant momprenuer and designer of The Butler Bag. This is one of those inventions that you’d sell your first born to own (not really, but close). Famous celebs are taking notice and Chic celebrities like Hilary Duff & hot mom Eva LaRue have raved about The Butler Bag! Now it’s my pleasure to introduce you as well.

The purse is gorgeous hand-stitched leather in a splendid varitey of colors, but inside is where the sheer genius lies. Built into the bag is an organization system that sections off everything into the most efficient bag you’ll ever own. Trust me I want one in every color. The bag boasts a flat bottom which allows it to stand alone and not tip over on you, even in the minivan. I’m in love with the way each section holds everything I need, I can put my hands on anything within seconds - everything is at my fingertips. Another bonus is that you’ll never need to carry a wallet again, because of the smart design credit cards slide in and are readily available. This purse is so chic it’s a fast favorite for me, bar none it’s my fave purse ever! Once you have a Butler you’ll never go back a life without one. - Daria

Hot chocolate in the middle of summer? Definitely!

May 21st, 2007

MarieBelleBy now you all know my love of all things chocolate””well, almost all things. (I’m still not a big fan of the cherry cordial but it will do in an emergency.) I can’t survive the winter without a constant supply of hot chocolate, and when summer hits I sadly pack away the Cocoa-Latte machine and gourmet mixes. But this summer I’ll actually be able to enjoy a gourmet hot chocolate, only this one will go from microwave to blender and from hot to ice cold””and it will be delicious!

MarieBelleI received samples of MarieBelle’s Aztec Iced Chocolate in both the original and Cardamom flavors. I have been dying to open the can and test it out ever since it arrived last week. Tonight for family night my girls and I enjoyed our first ever iced hot chocolate, and according to my oldest, it was the best “chocolate slushy” ever! When I first tasted the iced chocolate it tasted not only rich and dark but had a hint of something else. Not being a gourmet (I simply enjoy gourmet food) I couldn’t tell what it was, but thanks to my 9-year-old, who reads everything on every cereal box, we discovered we had popped open the Cardamom Iced Chocolate. I’ve never experienced a “spiced” hot chocolate before and now I may never be able to go back to my old standbys. As for my youngest daughter, she thought it was “so yummy” she wants it for “breakfast, lunch, and dinner!”

Fashion Show - Vintage*Chic Boutique

May 19th, 2007

Vintage Chic boutique This week on Boutique Cafe, we’re pleased to bring you a Fashion Show highlighting the designs of Chelsea from Vintage Chic Boutique. Chelsea creates wonderful designs for little girls, from eclectic to traditional her love of great fabrics and beautiful details shine through.

When asked about her inspirations she says:
“I think because of the lack of creativity in my first 20 years of life, it is all just exploding out of me now! I starting sewing when I was about 20 years old and haven’t stopped since. I love fabric and I love the process of combining fabrics together and putting them into a design that is all my own. It is very rewarding to emerge from my sewing room after hours and hours of creating something and seeing the completed design on my model! I find inspiration everywhere. In my kids, flowers in the garden, magazines, and movies. I was watching a old movie the other day and saw the coolest dress on one of the actresses. I thought, “I need to make that for my next set!” I also draw from my own style and tastes. When something catches my eye, I take a mental note and then go from there.”
