Dishin’ about the BC Girls Getaway

April 22nd, 2007

BC Girls Getaway The First Annual Boutique Cafe Girls Getaway weekend is officially over and if you weren’t there you really missed out. Everyone who attended had their cups of couture filled to overflowing with new experiences (many Salt Lake City first-timers), new friendships (those avatars now have real names and real faces), and lots of new ideas (”If it’s something you really believe in, you’ll be successful”–Carrie Miner from Puddle Jumpers).

Now that’s just a very small taste of the delicious weekend the attendees enjoyed. I was not able to indulge in every activity (it doesn’t help when, after over an hour of waiting, you realize you’re at the wrong Bucca di Beppo), but I did get to hang with the BC girls for the PJ Party Friday night and learn more about these wonderfully creative and inspiring women. That hotel room simply oozed creativity–and a few great stories (but that’s for us to know and perhaps non-attendees to never find out). By midnight I had OD’d on way too many bite-size candy bars but I did learn that Chicago has some of the best barbecue sauce in the U.S., Daria is a big fan of musical toothbrushes (especially those with music from the Cheetah Girls), and Preston, Idaho is home to a world-famous rodeo.

The Saturday session was quite possibly the highlight of the event with three fabulous guest speakers. My pen could hardly keep up with the great tips and ideas floating around the room. I’m sure you’ll be able to catch the conference via video in the near future, but personally meeting these women is something you won’t be able to do via broadcast. Oh, and the giveaways were something else! And yes, I actually do own a sewing machine, girls, and I promise to make good use of my gift certificate to Fashionable Fabrics.

And major kudos to Daria, who even on her deathbed managed to attend the Saturday conference and put on a brave face. With a stomach in turmoil from much more than stress about the event, Daria kept her famous smile and just-as-famous laugh intact through the whole weekend. With help from our Queen of Chat (Megan), Eva, Amelia, and many others, the First Annual BC Girls Getaway was a true success. Plans are already in the works for next year’s Second Annual BC Girls Getaway, “The Hot 100,” but that’s all I’m going to tell you. Just be sure and pencil it in so you too can fill your cup of couture to overflowing. –EmilyBC Girls Getaway

That was such an incredible experince for me. It really changed my perspective on a lot of things and my heart has been aching since yesterday. I know we only had a few days together, but it was so fun to be amongst women who share the same interests and passions in life. I have never felt more at home and I felt such a connection with many of you.

  17. Eva says:

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I cannot begin to express what a fantastic time I had at the BC Girl’s Getaway weekend. Every designer I met is such a fantastic person and oozing with talent and an eye for beauty. Daria, you should feel so proud at your successes and in your being able to surround yourself with top quality people. Your smile and gift of expression are unmatched. Watching Megan take the baton and run with things so professionally and lovingly was a true inspiration. Emily made me start crying no less than 10 times simply because she is so beautiful and able to somehow deeply connect with other women with a simple glance and with words of encouragement and understanding. Amelia has a poetic soul–she was the best roommate imagineable and so very beautiful and stylish who could stand it!! :) I love thinking of her dancing with her girls so much at home that Masyn “breaks it down” and show her dance moves to other little girls on the playground. Nikki and Terry are the coolest–wow! I love those two ladies. I need an entire blog to comment about everyone. I had the best time–a life altering experience that included a walk in red heels to eat great pasta, a waiter named Tom who didn’t know what he’d gotten himself into, flashes from the camera like we were on the red carpet, a pj party to remember, impeccable service from the Hilton banquets staff, inspirational presentations from 3 hot moms. One who inspired us to jump any puddle in our path, another expressed that having the courage to wear yellow heels with a navy blue blouse will bring out the hotness in you, and one who demonstrated how taking the time from a busy, star-studded designers’ life to speak to newbies and share a cab with one of those hopeful breakthrough designer is her way of giving back in gratitude for the success she is enjoying in her life. What could be more fantastic than this! The weekend was a huge success-I wish I could have stayed for the shopping. I made new friends that I already absolutely love and as Emily said–this cup of couture runneth o’er! Tears on the plane for me as well. HUGS, Eva

P.s. I left my pj party gift! I was lucky enough to get a fabulous pin cushion made by Ticia (CAMERON DIAZ ain’t got nothin on this beauty) Megan—I am hoping you picked up my gift :)

I am also sad that I missed out on the pj party! It sounds like you ladies had so much fun!

I really enjoyed the speakers Saturday and meeting all the amazingly talented ladies. When the announcement for next years Girls Getaway Weekend was announced I leaned over and asked Marni if she was up for a road trip. :D I went to the conference Saturday not really knowing what was going on and left completely inspired!
