I love the smell of freshly baked bread!
April 10th, 2007
In my house you rarely catch a whiff of freshly baked bread. I do make rolls on occasion (using my bread machine to do all the dirty work) but for some reason, even that freshly baked smell is no match for what Great Harvest Bread Company bakes up on a daily basis.
If you haven’t set foot in a Great Harvest, you’re really missing out. With some of the best breads, rolls, and cookies around, this is a must-stop shop for those yummy carbs you can’t live without. My favorites? The Honey Whole Wheat, Cinnamon Burst, and Cheddar Garlic loaves. The Cinnamon Burst makes the best French toast ever, and the Cheddar Garlic turns grilled cheese into gourmet grilled cheese. Not all Great Harvests carry the same selection but you’re sure to find something tempting no matter where you go. Our local Great Harvest even serves some of the yummiest sandwiches, cookies, and brownies and offers a selection of oatmeal and soup mixes.
At Great Harvest all of their products are made from scratch (no mixes or frozen doughs). They also mill their whole wheat flour fresh daily on stone or hammer mills, which means their products not only taste better but deliver more nutritional value than you’re getting in that wheat bread at home. I’m all for nutrition when it comes in the form of a Basil Parmesan, Apple Crunch, or Pumpkin Chocolate Chip bread! And did I mention that when you go in to make a purchase you’re offered a free slice of bread? It is SO worth it, especially since the slices are a good inch thick and they’ve got slabs of butter ready for spreading. Yep, think I’m going to have to pay Great Harvest another visit this week. It’s been at least a couple days since I’ve had my fix… –Emily
