Grumpy mom meets Grumpy Girl

June 8th, 2006

Grumpy GirlToday is a perfect day to write this review. I’m having one of those grumpy mom moments and my Grumpy Girl t-shirt is the only thing helping keep what little sanity I have left.

The t-shirt I am lucky enough to own is the Instant Ramen cap-sleeve tee. I thought it fit right in with our BBQ week as the tagline reads: “I cook”¦instant Ramen. On certain holidays.” My kids consider themselves lucky if the get Ramen! The shirt has a cute little graphic of a Ramen coupon on the back below the collar and a sweet little embroidered Grumpy Girl label on the sleeve. The shirt is made from super soft, 100% combed ringspun cotton. Read the rest of this entry »

Who said anything about hamburgers?

Williams-Sonoma Grill-top Pizza StoneWhen summertime comes around everyone breaks out the barbecue. I can always catch a whiff of typical barbecue fare: steak, chicken, and hot dogs. But this year my neighbors will be smelling brick-oven style pizza fresh off the grill.

The Williams-Sonoma Grill-Top Pizza Stone is made specifically for gas grills and includes a porous clay stone that sits within a raised stainless-steel frame. The backsplash keeps toppings from flying all over the grill and the thermometer helps you keep the temperature in check. It “uses the high heat of the grill to produce brick oven-style pizza with a crisp crust and bubbly-hot toppings.” Hold on, let me wipe the drool off my keyboard before continuing”¦Williams-Sonoma

We tried out the pizza stone using a focaccia bread recipe for the crust and the typical cheese and pepperoni toppings so my kids would actually try it. The only slightly tricky part was making sure the pizza dough didn’t stick on the cookie sheet so I could slide it easily onto the stone, but once I used half a box of cornmeal we were good to go. Though our version didn’t look nearly as gourmet as the picture””our crust turned out a good two inches thick—it tasted pretty yummy. The crust was hot and crispy on the outside and chewy (but still cooked through) on the inside. The cheese was bubbly, the pepperoni greasy, and we ate every last bite.

Cleanup was a cinch; just scrape the stone clean of any leftover toppings and it’s ready to go the next time you’re craving pizza hot off the grill. In my case that could be tomorrow. Sure, we’ll still try and grill a few burgers, but only if there’s room once we throw on the pizza. – Emily

Food always tastes better when someone else does the cooking

Homemade BabyNot all of us are able to enjoy what’s grillin’ on the barbecue. For those who may be chewing-challenged (i.e. getting used to those things called teeth), Homemade Baby is a great alternative to that big juicy steak. I learned about Homemade Baby on a recent episode of Good Morning America and just had to try it out. Here are the basics:

“¢ Home-style organic recipes, cooked under a Le Cordon Bleu Chef’s supervision.
“¢ Food sealed for your baby’s protection; stays fresh for 20 days refrigerated or frozen for up to 2 months.
“¢ Convenient delivery to your door the next day. Read the rest of this entry »

Make your child a Starchild!

June 5th, 2006

StarchildGoing barefoot is one of the things I love best about summer. My feet are happiest when they’re naked, but if Starchild shoes came in my size, my feet might never go naked again! Madonna, Gwyneth, David & Victoria Beckham”¦all stars and all purchasers of Starchild shoes. I was sold before even reviewing the pair the company sent, but then again, I’m easy when it comes to celebrity must-haves. Now that I’ve had the chance to try them out, I’d buy them even if a certain famous person married to a certain famous (and hot) singer didn’t own a pair. Read the rest of this entry »

Love your Laundry!

June 1st, 2006

Downy Lavender& VanillaSimple Pleasures – what a relaxing and luxurious way to promote the art of washing clothes. I am no aficionado in the ways of doing laundry on a consistent basis, in fact just ask my hubby and he’ll say that I need all the encouragement I can get. I fully agree, (but don’t tell him) so whether it’s the great big sign I’ve hung over my washing machine affirming “I LOVE LAUNDRY!!” or a product that helps me get pumped about washing, drying, folding and uggh….putting away, I take hold with both hands and take it into my life. Thank goodness I found Downy’s Vanilla & Lavender fabric softener. Downy Sheets

I was first introduced to Downy’s Vanilla & Lavender by my Mother-in-Law. She swore to me that if I tried it I would not only want to wash my clothes 27/7, but I’d want to eat them they smelled so good. I have yet to chow down on a tee shirt soaked in Downy but the aroma of the Simple Pleasures is the most yummy and gorgeous smell. It does make you LOVE your Laundry and to me that is a miracle.

I’ve heard that Downy Simple Pleasures is now making their Vanilla & Lavender fabric softener available in dryer sheets as well as liquid. If you love the smell, dryer sheets are also wonderful air fresheners as well. Put one inside your vents or stuff them in sweaty smelling shoes and you’ll have a fresh smelling pair in no time. Just don’t eat your sneakers! – Daria

Have you tried it? What did you think?

All Queen Bees deserve a bit o’ honey

June 1st, 2006

Tummy HoneyI hate stretch marks. They have no redeeming value. If I’m going to wear a badge of honor after childbirth, I’d rather it be a cheap little medal I can throw in the kids’ dress up box. If you have similar feelings and are currently expecting or planning on it, pick up some Mother’s Intuition Tummy Honey Butter.

Tummy Honey Butter has a very mild scent, no artificial preservatives, and claims prevention of new stretch marks “by maintaining skin elasticity and moisture deep into skin layers.” It’s also all natural, hypoallergenic, and itch-free. I would love my belly to be itch-free during that last trimester!

I’m not currently pregnant but I still had to see how Tummy Honey Butter compares to my old favorite, Bust n’ Bellies by Mountain Body. So I rubbed a little Butter on my post-pregnancy belly. (I secretly hoped it would make the post-pregnancy fat disappear, but that miracle cream has yet to be discovered.). Tummy HoneyI was impressed with how quickly the Butter absorbed into my skin, which Bust n’ Bellies didn’t do. I could also tell it had great moisturizing skills, as my skin felt great even the next day!

Now for the ingredients.Tummy Honey Butter contains cocoa butter, shea butter (love it!), vitamins D and E, wheat germ oil, olive oil (“a sworn-by remedy in middle eastern cultures”), avocado oil, jojoba oil, sesame oil, almond oil, and aloe vera. Those are the perfect ingredients for kicking some stretch mark butt. – Emily

  • Giveaway! Mother’s Intuition is giving away one 3-pack set. We’ll draw the winner from the visitors who post comments in the Tummy Butter review notes this week. Let us know why you’d love to try the Tummy Honey Butter .
